Default Possibly selling my Z

Looking to sell my Z. I dont really need to sell it, but I think it would be the right choice right now. I love my Z and its going to be hard to part ways with it for sure. I just need something that is more practical for hauling the family around (wife and kid). Looking at picking up a 2011 STI. I have never had a boosted car, and think it will be fun to learn something new. Does anyone know how much performance drop I will experience from my Z to the STI? I just have exhaust and intake on the Z. I am looking to stay under 35k and the only real options on new vehicles is the STI or an EVO. Please discuss what you think.

Would you be able to pickup an inexpensive 4-door Civic or something and still keep the Z? I had a WRX previously and it was very nice, but neither the STI or EVO look like the Z.

Personally I do not like either one...at all! If I need a family hauler I'd switch to a more luxury/comfort based vehicle. Forget trying to stay sporty. That's why I got my Z, it is very sporty, but completely impractical. But I don't have kids so, all I needed was a toy.

Put a turbo in the Z. Should solve your problems. Sti, Evo don't equal the Z. Z is a drivers car.

How many miles are on your Z? I'm thinking about trading my 2011 Evo X with 6k miles for another Z.

The STi or EVO as a family hauler is far from a smart move. Have you ever driven and inspected one?
If you buy the hatch version of the sti? Maybe? But the sedan version of the Sti and evo completely suck as a family hauler. The evo build quality is awful for anything more than just having lots of fun in the car... I mean, mustang and camaro run about equal in overall usability to these cars.
I would follow the advice of other members on here or have you considered no money down low cost leasing of an altima. Residual value is so high you won't pay any to very little depreciation. You can pay as little as $200 a month for 39 mo. Then switch up to something new later? That way by the time you switch up, your Z is paid off and you can move on to the next family hauler with more room to breathe.
As far as the Z goes... GO FI. I drove a stage II gtm g37s before and the vq37vhr is ridiculous. None of the current v8's are anywhere near as fun with FI as a vq. These engines were meant to be turbo'd. I will guarantee you anyone who FI's there Z or G will fall in love all over again and will never part with it.

Get a G37 or IS350. Both are fun to drive. The G37 has a little more room inside.

I'm assuming you bought the Z when you already had "the wife and kid". So what is different now? I agree with others who say... either buy a sports car or buy a luxury car. It's not like your going to drive balls out with a little kid in the booster seat.... are you? Then what's the point? Evo's are junk and are for 19 year old boy racers. The STI is so ugly, I wouldn't be caught dead in one.

Keep the Z for the weekends. Save up for a year or 2 and buy the wife a 2011 (or 2012) Jeep SRT 8 (what I did).

Best of both worlds.

As far as the Mustang and Camaro being just as usable. You are wrong. Both are 2 door, and to put the car seat in and out of the back is a PITA. Four doors is much better as a family hauler. I dont have the money for another car while keeping the Z, so thats not an option either. I still want something fast, that I can haul my family in. I could care less about having a fast luxury car. I dont know why everyone is saying " put a TT kit on". What is that going to solve? More power sure, but does it add a second row of seats? No.

I'm just not seeing the logic with "Driving fast with my family in it"

You really think your wife is going to let you do canyon runs with the baby in the backseat?

how does the sti sedan suck as family hauler?

OP-you will get a very different driving experience in the cars you mentioned, both vs the z and vs each other. I recommend trying to get some seat time (though the insurance crap makes it tough for the STI).

I bought a 2011 WRX to be my daily beater, but I pretty quickly wound up not taking the Z out much anymore...the boost is a lot of fun, and I prefer the steering feel, etc, of the subaru, not to mention the engine smoothness.

That said, the interior is notably cheaper than that of the Z. Much more hard plastic. Better than the EVO by far, but nowhere near the Z's level.

I do agree that a 2 door is not really a good call, unless the kid is old enough to hop in the back by him/herself.
