pretty much this. you basically are gonna stop cooling your engine when the oil temps get that high.

serious limp mode doesn't kick in currently til 300. that could be catastrophic.

If something this cheap and simple really does work, it almost makes Nissan even more of a douche for not equipping 370Zs with this from the get go. I remember back in 2009 when a certain member of this forum who also works for Nissan defended his employer on the issue, telling us all how equipping the Z with an oil cooler would significantly raise cost, etc. Yeah, so much for that argument.

they saved about $30 a car by not including it

On the other hand, it is absolutely excellent for most users. You get great daily-driveability, nice warm oil, and none of the (HUGE) risk that an air-cooled system generates. Apologies to those doing this, but it's absolutely an awful decision to run an air-cooled system without a pressure gauge. The risk of catastrophic engine failure from a fitting issue or a rock is huge, and definitely not worth it. The water-cooled system will only result in a coolant leak in the same situation--not really a big deal. Another nice perk is upgrading a radiator can help, and is not nearly as much a warranty concern as an air-to-oil cooler. Agree 100%!

It remains to be seen what other changes have been made to the system-- I am interested to see for sure whether this system just taps straight into the old radiator setup, or if they have changed anything else...regardless, this marks a huge step forward for Z drivers. Truly a shame Nissan didn't pony up the extra $30 a unit to put this on from the start...would have been a lot better for everyone.

You don't need to be above 100C to rid moisture from the oil. Back when the Z06 had air/oil coolers, there was never any UOA's that showed too water in the oil that I recall anyone posting. They ran 130-160* normally.

I think you guys will see coolant temps and oil temps that are MUCH more stable than you are used to. In my car, the oil and coolant are usually within 2-4* just cruising. When you thrash on it, oil temps will rise above coolant temps by a good margin. When you sit in traffic, coolant temps rise above oil temps.

However, it is a lot more stable, and I LOVE the fact that the liquids sloshing through my heads are of much more similar temperature, etc. It just seems better to me.

Somehow I just glossed over that one. That is a VERY important caveat. What is the engine coolant system like?

PS. I would ASSUME (I know...) that Nissan tested this, to make sure it would actually do most of what people seem to hope it will?
