Will Nissan's addition of an oil cooler in 2012 make modded older Z's stock?
As we know, a Z with an oil cooler is considered a "mod" car and can't race in the C stock class. The 2012 Z comes with an oil cooler as standard. Will this automatically allow cars with aftermarket oil coolers to run in the stock class?

I would think not. A stock car is something you get the way the factory put it together. The factory didn't put an oil cooler in your car, so you can't really call yourself stock.

Unfortunately, anything that does not come from the factory at the time of the car's completion will always be considered modified. I find it funny though how people are so excited about this oil cooler and yet, for the amount Nissan increased the car's MSRP, you could have a bought a more than likely superior aftermarket cooler.
Having an oil cooler installed will not cause you warranty problems at the majority of dealers.

The question is can you get Nissan to install the "OEM" cooler from the '12s on older Z and have them warranted?

This is Nissan's attempt to calm down the overheating critics

They aren't doing a good job. I emailed Nissan and told them about my high temps at just crusing speed and was told to go to my local dealer... no "we will send a message to your local dealer" or "we will do whatever we can to keep your business" ... nothing. It's like Mitsu with their paint... they know they screwed up... they just don't want to fork out the money.

I have an aftermarket catback exhaust and K&N drop-in air filters, and it is still considered C stock. Anything more like intakes, etc and it wouldn't be 'stock' anymore. You sure an oil cooler makes it not stock?
