Is now the time for a colour change?

I'll be installing a new front bumper, fenders, hood, spoiler, rear bumper, side skirts at the end of the month.

I'm considering a colour change, any ideas on the price difference between having all my parts painted, or just doing and entire re-paint of the car?

Obviously changing the entire car colour will be more expensive, but since I am having 75% of the exterior replaced and painted anyways I would think now would be the ideal time?

I'm leaning heavily towards either a dark gunmetalic (GT-R) colour or doing a matte silver.

Something that doesn't show scratches or dirt, I'm really sick of having to wash my car 2x weekly(currently black) just so it doesn't look filthy.

Any thoughts or price estimates?

Thanks

Well if your MB is magnetic black? Then hell yes paint it a new color. But if your MB is Monterrey blue? Leave it... that color will be a classic. I have gun metallic. Z GM and GT-R GM is exactly the same in shades. You get an extra coat of paint and an extra 2 coats of clear on the GT-R or vice versa? Gun metallic is the nicest gray nissan has out right now but brighter colors on sports cars look pretty hot.

Jjaden 10-08-2011 09:18 AM

The MB is Black. I live out in the country, and the car get's filthy very quickly.

Generally a day or two after washing it looks like it hasn't been washed in weeks.

I'm a big fan of Gun Metallic, there's also the colour of the Porsche 911 Turbo 2008 model, it comes in a gorgeous deep metallic grey, if I could find the paint code I'd go with that in a heatbeat.

SPOHN 10-08-2011 09:45 AM

Just have the car wrapped. The amount you would end up spending in paint you could do several wraps over time.

This is an option, but I still have the pay to have the parts I'm installing painted.

So I figure if having them all painted and installed costs 2500-3000k and a full repaint is 4000-4500 I might as well cough up the extra dough now?

themann1984 10-08-2011 10:51 AM

Lambo orange!

The 370Z is pure sex! It is hot, loud, and rough!

I wanted to get a custom color (Cobalt Green) at purchase and I was laughed at. I have since learned to love silver. It is great in the sun, dirt shows minimally, and low on the police radar. No way would I pick BS as a custom color though. Too common.

OP: any other clues about your likes and dislikes color wise? Do you want stock or any color will do? Yellow- CY stands out, and is unusual on a Z, but I imagine must be hard to keep clean, same for "themann1984: Lambo orange!" suggestion.

For colour I want something dark silver, or gunmetal in colour. Also considering perhaps a matte gray.

It doesn't have to be a custom colour, as I like the 370z Gunmetal. Is it the same as the Nissan GTR gunmetal?

SPOHN 10-08-2011 02:48 PM

Get the same as our calipers. Thats a good gray. My wheels ate the same colors as our calipers but they call them gun black.

If you paint it a new color paint it something that Nissan doesn't offer. British racing green or midnight blue are my choices. Burnt orange if you like brighter colors.

I have to remember that colors look different on different cars. I (for example) LOVED brazen orange on my GTO, but don't think it will come off as nicely on the Z. I think white corvettes look like ass but love my white Z

Lemers 10-08-2011 03:01 PM

Your right about different colors looking different on different cars. But white looks like azz on any car.

frost 10-08-2011 03:17 PM

Obviously your jealousy of me not having swirl marks talking. I forgive you.

White is the best color, especially metallic white.

Yes, they are the same code - KAD.

Re-painting a car slaughters value in my book. I would just leave it alone and trade up to a model you like better in due time. If you plan on being buried in the car, sure, spend the $4-6K it will take to do a color change, but otherwise, why?

No, MAACO and the like won't do a color change correctly, lol It's going to COST. The engine, all the under-hood stuffings, the interior, everything must come out. Not cheap. Not guaranteed to go back in the same.

This is exactly what I am looking for!

First picture is bang on, the second car is probably the same car, different lightning right? I love that colour!

This and the deep blue colour that GTR's come in, are my two favorite's right now...

Agreed. You'd be crazy to get a custom gray/white/black paint job

KillerBee370 10-08-2011 07:55 PM

I'd go with that midnight purple from house of kolor or whatever it's called. And that's coming from a guy with a yellow car so you know it's gotta be good!! :icon17:

I think you found your color.

It might be too dark to keep clean but certainly better than black. The deep blue might be tougher. I have no experience with these colors. Does any one else?

Waiz 10-09-2011 12:05 AM

If you're having trouble keeping your car clean already I would stay away from a matte finish, it's a complete PIA.

Can you put a clear-bra over a matte finish?

It will turn it gloss most likely. The adhesive will fill in the texture and the slick surface of the clear-bra will act like/look like a clear-coat.

That is just an educated guess based on how it "fixes" road-rash and small scratches if they aren't too bad when applied on regular clear-coat paint.

You have to agree with captain little limp noodle or the roids will make his tiny head splode.
