I think it is just money.

Most manufacturers stay away from air coolers on the whole-- moving oil is a liability, moving coolant is no problem.

So would I have any issues with an aftermarket oil cooler and driving in the snow/very cold temps?

I disagree. GM was using a plate system and then spent the money to develop the coolant/oil system for the ZR1. They then stopped using plate systems on the Z06 in 2011.

upfront costs are different than per-unit costs.

A factory installed/warrantied oil cooler and some sound deadening is making you regret trading in your car?

Well, I highly doubt the oil/coolant setup is a new concept. Why not use it initially instead of waiting for the ZR1 to put the money into developing it, along with the other cooling system enhancements on the ZR1?

If it is cheaper, why use it on the Z06 (recently) and the ZR1, and NOT the Grand Sport, which they sell a lot more of and use the plate-type cooler on?

It's not ideal to run around with 140F oil, but what are you going to do when it is 20F out. I used blue painters tape to tape up the oil cooler last year because i got too lazy to do anything on my 2 miles commute....

Not sure. I don't have an oil cooler yet, but was planning on getting one eventually. Problem is, I DD my Z including in the winter even if it snows.

What makes me really laugh is that I said this setup would be ideal and then everyone whined and bitched about how much it would cost to do a setup like GM did. Now Nissan did it and you are all whining some more, lol.

here many of you are in this thread here telling me crap about "This is Nissan and not GM" and other such mess when I tried to talk some sense into you.
oil cooler

Well...in the words of Cartman, suck my bawwwlllss!!!!!
(Presuming of course that Nissan doesn't use a plate setup. In which case you have already shown that you think it is CHEAPER and VERY PLAUSIBLE for them to use the setup we are currently discussing. You just sing a different tune because it's YOUR idea now.)

Amazing how everyone changes their tune when they think it's "their" idea. Go read the thread and then come back here and see what the same people are saying.
