Unless it was absoultely out-fvcking-rageously expensive, if I wanted one, I'd probalby lump the premium cost to have it installed at the dealership if it would be convered under the powertrain warranty.

That said, I bet they won't do that.

I got it to 255 every time I drove the Dragon, and only that low because I realized it mid way and switched to higher gears. Outside temps were mid-80's.

255 or 260 are closer than I'd like to be to limp mode (270).

I stay around 240-245 on most runs where its not blistering hot outside. The only time i ever got as high as 260 was that one day. I drive it harder now than i did then as back then I only had the car a week and needed to get used to it.

The only need is for those that track their cars, but I guess is good to have one from the factory since I'm tired of reading the magazines articles on how the Z overheats. Of course they are tracking the car in the magazines competition with other cars.

What does "knowing how to drive" change?

I think it means Mustang drivers don't know how to drive...

I'm kidding!

Seriously, it confused me too.

Change?

I'm refering to those that go up the Dragon in low gears and don't know how to shift a manual transmission car....since Tony haven't gone up on his 7AT Z.

Does he ride on the car or in it?

It's not about knowing how to drive. You can choose to stay out of limp mode if you cruise in 3rd. If you drive more towards 6-7/10, you will hit limp mode.

When I left, I followed some bikes out and was up at 280 within minutes.

I think what Jose meant was that it happens if you don't know how to drive to avoid limp mode... you just have to take it a little easier and try to let the car rest at lower revs where you can. On the street it doesn't mean you can't have fun, it just means you can't drive at 10/10ths for an extended period without the oil cooler.

At ZDayZ 2010 I got it up to 250-260 degrees and that included hitting 2nd gear in a few of the hair pins. I didn't maintain consistently high-revs or flog the car on the straights, though. I would hit 4th or even 5th on some of the longer stretches to keep the engine as cool as I could and that worked fine.

Yup, when we went out a few times when it was in the low 70s the temps were fine. You had to drive pretty hard to top 250. But there was an afternoon or two where it was 80+ out and you had to pay a little more attention to the gauges, but otherwise the car did really well, IMO.

Would it have been better with an oil cooler? Probably. But it really wouldn't have changed the experience much unless it was really hot out.

I know how to drive the car. It would be more fun to stay in lower gear and scream around every corner. It's less fun to pull up halfway through and not be able to play.

But whatever, clearly I don't know what I'm saying.

My third day with this new Z, didn't take it past 4600rpm, but it was 106 outside. I hit 260 degrees. I was disapponted because I ran the hell out of my 09 for long periods of time. Bouncing of rev limiters and being very hard on the accelerator. I wouldn't pass 250dg. So Nissan better make a warranty oil cooler for us old model owners. Its only right. I don't care if we get charged... We been petitioning it out of a desperate need to improve our cars performance. In northern states it matters less. In tx and other hot southern states. An oil cooler is a big deal.
