A little bit of Google due diligence will show you that the FT-HS concept was unveiled at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show.

sounds like a lotta work:ugh2:

Well, technically the OP would have to admit that the 370Z is copying the FT-HS concept. ;)

I don't know about you guys but in 2015, according to Marty McFly and Doc Brown, where we're going we don't need roads. Forget Scion, supra and even Nissan cars, I'm getting myself the new 2015 Flying Ford mustamg Fox Body style. Hey now, ford already went back in time and altered a prior year model into the ford of today. I definitely see them doing it again in 2015 :).

The Scion an toyota might be flying cars which aren't anywhere close to a Z duhhhhhh hahahah

Ok then why don't you prove how the Z is a ground breaking design and doesn't use styling cues that other cars haven't used. This is pointless to argue, how hard is it to accept that they aren't copying the Z and just using tried and true sports car styling? I'll keep reading the thread cause people are posting up some funny pics, but I'm done arguing the point.

Its not fair to call these cars wannabe's simply because they all have a previous history like the Z. The original corollas were some fun azz "Punto-Ocho's" that really set it off for jdm tuning. The Z was the first car to get high recognition, but the tuner scene originally started with the toyota corollas and mazda rx3 etc... these cars were stereotyped as ricers back then but they shocked people on the track. Then came celica's supras then starions. Which the Mitsubishi starion founded the first ECU tunes back in 1982. As though nissans were affordable but much more expensive than the above. So toyotas, mazdas and mitsu's were the original poor mans rockets. Nissan was the more expensive niché car that saw tuners from older used models vs tthe other brands that were tuned from new or newer year models. Later on civic crx, and preludes entered the seen putting honda on the tuning map hardcore out of left field.

The FR-S is being compared to its corolla predecessor, the FT-86. One of the best original import tuner platforms of the early 80's. That hatchback was sick. I would love for mitsu to bring the starion back. :)

PS. There is no resemblence between the FR-S and Z. I just don't see it. It looks like a sleeker version of the new scion tc.

Jordo! 10-04-2011 10:38 PM

Actually, a lot of the Z's lines look like they were adapted from the Panamera.

The FR-S will not look as sexy as the Scion concept (unfortunately) and the FT-HS (which the FR-S is somewhat based on) will probably never be built.

That said, all sports cars have similar lines, and there's only a few variations on the basic sports coupe shape out there.

Supercars tend to look completely different, but regular sports coupes definitely have many lines in common.

Really, all car manufacturers borrow from one another...

TreeSemdyZee 10-05-2011 02:00 AM

"A" or "B"=groundbreaking. "Z"=copy.

jaedub 10-05-2011 02:06 AM

if you didnt know, the FR-S a.k.a ft-86 has been out for about 3 years (concept). The toyota supra has been out for about 6 years (concept). So technically speaking, these 2 cars has been made wayyyyy before the 370z.

ImportConvert 10-05-2011 06:18 AM

*sigh*

The 370Z is as much a copy as anything else.
From the mid 60's...

A couple more classic GT cars that share the classic shape and styling cues that Toyota is "copying":

:icon18: I want those.

wdkwang 10-05-2011 09:52 AM

OP, the 370 is based off the 240, and the 240 is based off the porsche 911.

also, ibtl

kenchan 10-05-2011 10:34 AM

i think wat happens is when you rely on aerodynamics it ends up looking like the Z? :D

Or maybe the '63-'67 Corvette coupes?

kenchan 10-05-2011 10:39 AM

someone should just make a 5 wheeled sports car and call it a day.

If you want to get technical, they took the 240's design straight from ancient Cybertronians.

The Tyrrel P34 6-wheeler was revolutionary and unique... but nobody followed suit with putting one in a race and there's probably a ton of good reasons for that (other than the FIA).

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...xhSinsheim.JPG

The functional, aerodynamic "wedge" shape that most modern sports cars have make them look similar by default.

(I know you're kidding about a 5 wheeled sports car)

Lug 10-05-2011 11:19 AM

ok Ok OK! I admit it, FricFrac was wrong. I'm SORRY! :(

luna- yah, that elf is definitely a classic.

CarsRfun 10-05-2011 09:43 PM

I would not call them 370 wanna bee's at all....the Scion is far lighter, emphasis is on handling not brute speed, and the price is 5-10k less, and its a 4cyl and it prolly will have 4 seats...not sure why you'd think it has much in common with a Z...6 cly 2 seater with 0-60 times around 5 seconds. It will just be a very reliable, cheap, fun, great handling car that is good on gas and very moddable.

The 370Z takes styling cues from the 240Z and from sharks. Those are cues. The FR-S and Supra are more similar than not - a lot more than "styling cues"....

And what was the 240Z taking styling cues from? The original long hooded, shark mouthed hatchback.

I always thought the 240 looked a great deal like the Ferrari Daytona also.

The original 240z intentionally copied the lines of a 61 ferrari. It might've been the daytona? Whichever one ran the Le Mans that year. Can't remember which model. But I know for sure the ferrari similarity was no fluke.
