Default Nissan Fairlady Z NISMO RC Announced!

Nissan Japan announced today it is now officially onsale ( price is about 163K USD)

[B]Nissan Motorsports International, Inc. (Minami Ohi, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo: President Shoichi MIYATANI), afterwards referred to as "NISMO", announces the release of the NISSAN FAIRLADY Z NISMO RC* (export designation: NISSAN 370Z NISMO RC). This is a production race car built up from the NISSAN FAIRLADY Z (export designation: NISSAN 370Z). The car goes on sale and orders will be accepted from October 3, 2011 on.

* RC=Racing Competition

■NISSAN FAIRLADY Z NISMO RC
This car uses Nissan's pride, the world renowned, high selling NISSAN FAIRLADY Z as its base. It has been adjusted for slick tires, its overall weight lightened and safety equipment installed to make it a top performance race car. It ran in the 2010 Super Taikyu (Super Endurance) series where it showed its superior maneuverability and reliability.

Its VQ37VHR engine puts out over 261kw (355ps) of power with over 374N▪m(38.1kgm) of torque. The car comes equipped with adjustable suspension and race spec brakes to guarantee maximum equilibrium.

It is furnished with a weld-in roll cage, bucket seats, safety harness, fire extinguisher and a 95 liter safety fuel cell. The NISSAN FAIRLADY Z NISMO RC is a fully equipped, professional racing car on purchase.

For customers who are interested in doing their own custom work, NISMO offers a "PARTLESS CAR" frame which is delivered without suspension, brakes, rear wing, seats, steering wheel, fire extinguisher, tires and wheels.

The NISSAN FAIRLADY Z NISMO RC is "made to order" and must be purchased directly from NISMO. (see notes below)

some of HKYSTORMFRONT's Pics

(note this is the US spec version which costs around $150K and does not have many of the modifications pictured above in the JDM RC car.... this is more inline with what nismo calls the "Partless car" version which lists for 136K
Quote:
To make it easier for our customers running in local races to customize their NISMO RC to meet its needs, we are providing a model which is delivered without the installation of: Suspension, Brakes, Rear wing, Seat, Steering, Fire extinguisher, Tires & Wheels.

Nice! I love factory-built racers. I'll take one of these and a 302R please.

150k... no thank you... I'd rather buy any of these: zr1, r8, gtr, 911 turbo... Plus, for 150k you mind as well buy your own nismo and mode it with extra money left.

That's not really the point of this car. This is a factory ready racer... much like Porsche offers with the 911 and Ford offers with the Boss 302R. You buy it and it's ready to run in a number of different race series. It's designed for professional competition.

I agree. It's way overpriced for what it is. Really it's just a bread and butter nismo with minor bolt on performance parts and the necessary safety upgrades for racing. It doesn't even make any more power than the road car. Give me those $120k difference and I'll turn my car into a supercar-slayer. At the very least nismo could have twin turboed their race car or something.

But most race cars tend to be bespoke. Huge difference between a ZR1 and a C6R, or a GT3 RS and a GT3 RSR or an M3 and M3 GTR. The Nismo RC is just a Nismo with basic bolt ons (e.g. brakes, wheels, tires, a proper LSD, coilovers, and of course the important oil and diff coolers. Other than that, it has the mandatory safety equipment (fuel cell, roll cage, 5 point harness, fire suppression system, etc.)

It's really not hard to make a standard nismo go faster than the race version, and do it cheaper too!

Only a couple of those are 'race ready' cars, this is not meant to be a super car killer it is meant to be a race car.
You think this is expensive? Many other race prep cars go for 200k-300k before you get into specific series requirements (short v. long endurance, other safety equipment, etc.). This car is not for everyone, but it provides race teams with an off the shelf option.

I mean, if you want a good example, go ask Travis how much he has spent on his car to be 100% track viable and we can get a good comparison.

Not typically.

If you look at professional sports car racing you have series where the cars are lightly modified from stock like the Grand Am Continental Tire series. More heavily modified cars (but still based off of the stock chassis) are raced in the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car series GT class, or ALMS GT or GTC. The FIA also has a GT classification.

Beyond that you move away from production cars and into prototypes. Ground-up race cars built within whatever the regulations are for that particular series.

This NISMO RC is a race car, designed to race against cars similarly equipped in professional competition. It's not an everything killer, just a GT-class racer.
