At the very least nismo could have twin turboed their race car or something.

If people look at this NISMO RC as if NISMO just pick up a street-version 370z from the production line and put some NISMO parts on it and try to sell it more $$ than a GT-R, they are wrong, it's not even the idea of this RC.

You are looking at a Factory Team Car, which is usually only available to racing teams, for example, it is like BMW selling their BTCC 320 RACE CAR to general public.

A BTCC 320si is much more $$$ than a street-version M3, but less horsepower.

Same idea in here for this NISMO RC.

cheers

Wonder if some of the parts (i.e. oil , tranny, and dif coolers will be available through NISMO catalog soon? They of course will be over priced.

Interesting... some observations

First, I think it is terrific that Nissan would build these... combined with their support for AM Performance and some other race teams, Nissan is clearly doing the right things to support racing on this platform

A lot of comparisons come to mind, but agree with the earlier statements that this car should be compared to other factory racecars not street supercars... factory racecars tend to carry a healthy premium, so I'm not surprised at the price point...

If price were the same... and specs were the same... I'd rather have a nissan factory racecar vs a one-off like mine... however, price and specs are not the same... Here is some compare / contrast on my vehicle vs this factory racecar... IMO, pros of my car:

- budget... ~$70-80K less for my build
- my budget includes a St 2 SC from GTM and nearly every go-fast part listed on the factory car, and then some... I have the option to run at a range of whp from 300-500 and my car is configurable in other ways to fit into different race series
- my roll-cage is basically over-built and should meet/exceed the spec of any series, not clear that's the case with the factory car... would be interested to see the specs, maybe I missed it
- my car has significant aero mods... splitter, diffuser, wing, etc

Pros of the factory car:

- get it now... mine has been built over a 2.5 year period... something I have enjoyed and learned from... my car is in essence a community car on this forum (no you can't drive it! lol)... but that's not a process for everyone
- something breaks, call the factory and get a part... one source... at least that's the way it works with Porsche Motorsports - who knows how Nissan will provide the same level of support
- arguably, resale value will hold better vs 1-off like mine
- Some specific parts / features I like on the factory car... ABS computer - no more ice mode!!! Ohlins supension... cockpit looks great

Weights are nearly identical...

I was a little surprised that they are running 20K springs in the rear... I run slight softer rear springs vs front, and I know other teams racing the Z are running 18K front / 12K rear... particularly with square setup, good to have a more compliant rear wheel rate...

If I were to spend this much on a factory racecar, I would probably look at the early 997 cups like this one Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car - Race cars for sale more for less

I know if I had the cash I would get it. Of course I would then sit there looking at it and devise a way to get it to get by emissions testing and put some DOT tires on it. Oh and I would have to replace the glass as well. lol

I like the get it now part, but it seems a bit much. At it's offered price, get a GT3RS which will beat it, and has a racing class to race in, and then drive to work the next day.

Hooray for Nissan for making the Z available for racing.

I wonder how much AM Performance has invested to develop their Grand Am Nismo cars?

I love this car, and I love that Nissan is making them and by that logic, getting more into supporting racing competition etc. That bods well for all of us enthusiasts.

PS--goddamn I want those front brake ducting setup for my car!

If you look at professional sports car racing you have series where the cars are lightly modified from stock like the Grand Am Continental Tire series. More heavily modified cars (but still based off of the stock chassis) are raced in the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car series GT class, or ALMS GT or GTC. The FIA also has a GT classification.

Beyond that you move away from production cars and into prototypes. Ground-up race cars built within whatever the regulations are for that particular series.

This NISMO RC is a race car, designed to race against cars similarly equipped in professional competition. It's not an everything killer, just a GT-class racer.
And that is why it is cheaper to just buy your own base/nismo and modify it to that class to race in.

I wonder if us nismo owners can ever get that vent modification on the front bumpers. They would be a great mod for cooling purposes.

Needs a bigger wing and a redesigned rear bumper without the license plate recess.

Other than that... pretty cool
