Default OBD reader problem

I have a program on my computer (Laplogger) that reads and can reset OBDs. It will read my wife's Toyota but says it cannot connect with the 370z's ecu. Are Nissan's ecus different from other manufacturers? Thanks for any help.

Well, many newer ECUs use CAN (Car Area Network), which is an upgraded protocol from the original OBD-II, and this includes our 370Z. However, I was under the impression that they're backwards compatible for all of the basic stuff (like reading and clearing OBD-II codes). When I go out for some food in a few, I'll try my older ScanGauge on my Z, I'm sure it knows nothing about CAN.

Yeah...Good possibility you'll need a CAN compatible reader. I use a Scangauge which provides instrumentation (4 data points at once) as well as code reading and clearing and is CAN compatible. You can kill several birds with one purchase on this one.. Having Water temps, intake temps, fuel trim up etc. is informative..

Yeah I use a little hand-held unit that's CAN-compatible, but I also have the earlier version of your ScanGauge, before they put the 'II' on the name, which I don't think does CAN. We'll see shortly.

Ok, just got back from my drive with the ScanGauge (old model). Apparently the old ScanGauge does support CAN, just not as automatically. With the default (autodetect) setting, it was not able to communicate with the car (and worse, whatever it does for autodetection shuts off my VDC, and it won't come back on until I turn the car off and on again, kinda like what happens with bad sensor inputs).

However, deeper in the setup you can manually force which protocol to speak to the car with. There's a huge list of them, with names like PWM, KPW, ISO, CANSF, CANLF, CANSS, CANLS, etc.. The only one that worked was CANSF. If I put the old ScanGauge into that mode (then turned the car off and back on again to clear up VDC), it worked fine. No other mode worked at all. So yeah, likely your scan tool just doesn't support the newer protocols.

/\ WSF...CAN SF is also the mode mine is in....so apparently this feature set is the same on the early and later scan gauges..

Guys, i just learned from torque-bhp.com that most nissan car that regionaly market for asia cant read any pid/data from the ecu except for engine error codes. i just tried the cheapo ebay elm327 obd2-bluetooth that connects to samsung galaxy tab 10.1 via torque pro. I can pairs both tab and the adapter fine, make connection to ecu also without problem but when it try to poll some data, the ecu throws a code saying that it is a restriction by manufacturer. Those car that sells in US/EU market gets it enabled by default. I wonder if any of you ECU guru knows how to enable it, and which parameter to enable? Really wish to have this feature enable so that i can view it via my tab.

Surprised it even works for you. I have torque on my phone (evo 4g) and the cheapo ebay ELM bluetooth OBDII adapter. It works fine on my QX4 and will stay connected but on the Z it just connects and then immediately disconnects. I cant keep it connected to save my life.

Brought my car to the Nissan service center, they plug in their Consult bluetooth (damn big) trying to enable PID reading for Asia region, fail. The consult software that they use cant change any parameter on the ECU. Can someone with Uprev Osiris confirmed if this feature can/can not be turned on by reflashing.

What year is your QX4? For me, torque pro ( with a cheapo bluetooth adapter and HTC Sensation 4G) works great with my 09 Z, but not my 01 Pathfinder. I had read that that telemetry data is locked out on the Pathfinder; that Nissan only unlocked it after 2006 and newer (not positive on the year, but it was around there; federal law). On the Pathfinder it will connect, but I think the only reading it gets is air temp or something similar.

99 QX4. It connects to the Z but then immediately drops it. Pisses me off.

Any solution to this PID poll issue for JDM 370z yet ? I wonder if it would make any different if i were to buy PLX KIWI. Just dont wanna waste 99 dollar + shipping knowing that it might not work. Can somebody other than US/EU 370z confirm that PLX KIWI really works.

O wow, really? This is the first I've heard of an OBDII port being locked. I have thought about picking up the PLX Kiwi. In for more info.

ISO-CAN is the setting I have to put my Greddy Infometer on. Here is a chart of various makes/models and what you can read from the OBDII port. http://www.greddy.com/upload/file/info-touch-part2.pdf
