Does going to the dealer for regular maintenance require mod removal?
So far my only plans are the usual Bolt-ons plus an Uprev tune.
I have already decided that if I ever need major work done under warranty, everything will be reverted to stock before taking it to a dealer. So my question is can I leave my mods on if I am just going in for regular maintenance and nothing is broken? Can they void my warranty simply because they see mods on my car, even though nothing is wrong? |

The only way you will run into an issue is when the mod directly causes your problem. Like if you lowered you car and then start having suspension problems... your S.O.L. Things like that...

Taking mine in for a 15k service later today. I'm leaving everything that I have done to it on.( cbe, hfcs', cbe, and an lsd- no way to put that back to stock). Let you know what happens later.

One thing to keep in mind: if any of your mods are involved in the 'regular' maintenance, chances are the dealer won't touch them - and you should probably tell them not to. Just as an easy example: if you have an intake other than stock, they won't replace the air filter if that's included in your regular maintenance. That would also apply to your muffler bearing if you have a CBE. I always tell them about any mods that might be involved in regular maintenance just so they a) don't mess with them and b) don't charge me for something they didn't do.
You'll find that a lot of techs will ask you about stuff you've done - chances are they're car guys too. If you're cool with them, they'll be cool with you. I had a guy at one dealership and he was the only one who worked on my car - he knew my mods and watched out for me and went to bat for me when the SM tried to deny a couple of things (claiming my upgraded AMG swaybars caused a shock to fail for one). When my modded overdrive pulley shattered and drove the wooduff key through the timing chain...well...that was a different matter... |

id remove the uprev tune and put you stock program in there before you take the car in so they dont accidentally program over your uprev.
dealers will flash your ecu when there is an update from the manufacturer. |

I go get stuff done there all the time... they don't care what you have on the car as long as you don't go in for a warranty item. If you blow your tranny up or something then take your parts off and go to a different dealer.. or the same.. they don't care. They make money on the repair either way.. but they are required to report mods to nissan when you go in for warranty work to get approved or not..

The long and short of it is it depends on the dealer that you use and whether or not the mods caused a problem. For routine maintenance they shouldn't bother you.

As everyone has been saying, you're protected as long as your modification cannot be linked to a warranty claim. This protection was granted in the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act enacted in 1975. Loosely it states: "The federal minimum standards for full warranties are waived if the warrantor can show that the problem associated with a warranted consumer product was caused by damage while in the possession of the consumer, or by unreasonable use, including a failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance."
