********.Regardless of the rims, this is ********. Would not have ever even cranked that car. The factory DOES put miles on the car to test them for rattles, etc. and GM even can do a 10-30 mile or so test-drive in the cars. I don't know about Nissan. What I DO! know is they do NOT do 250 miles of testing. |
Some may have missed this, but I actually google mapped directions from my dealership to the dealership of origin, and it came up as 225 miles. This means they actually just drove my car down, and put an extra 25 miles on it between loading it on the truck, driving it around back to get detailed, and taking it to the gas station for a free tank of gas. The only question is why did the salesman lie about it being truck delivered? I'm not too concerned with it. He either wanted to impress me for some reason, or simply made a mistake. I think it's safe to say my car was not a demo unit or any kids redlining it down the freeway for thrills.
Anyway it's a nice little project car for me now. Many planned upgrades, the first of which being an android tablet install where the dashboard storage compartment is. Probably wont be finished until christmas but I'll make sure to post it here since nobody seems to have done this to a Z yet. |

My car had 350 miles on it when I bought it new. It was either exchanged from another dealer or something else. So what? it was in perfect shape when I bought it, it's not burning oil (yet), and I've put 4000+ non-gentle miles on it since I've owned it. As long as it's never been titled it can be sold as a new car regardless of miles. Besides, I paid $35k for a 6MT touring/sport/nav in exactly the color combination I wanted so I was happy.
Don't sweat the miles and enjoy your new car! |

Wooooaaahhhhhh, so I found a vehicle inspection sheet tucked away inside my car from the dealership that it was shipped from. The date of the inspection is 8-15-2011, however it has an odometer reading on it. IT SAYS 200. So as far back as august my car already had 200 miles on it. When I took ownership of it it had 225 as I had mentioned, which means it was indeed delivered on a truck. However having 200 pre-existing miles on it can only mean one thing, that it was a demo car correct?

Enjoy your slightly used new Z boss! |
No I didnt bother to run a carfax on a brand new car, thought that was only for used cars. I just called the sales manager involved in my purchase about this, and he started by saying "every new car has on average between 100-400 miles on it before the customer takes it". He also said that it could have 200 miles on it from the first dealer because they traded it from yet another dealer for a purchase that never completed. Or because they just wanted to have a black Z on their lot so they had one brought in from another dealer.
He also said that if it was test driven by a customer, Nissan forbids dealerships to let customers go full throttle on their cars or put the cars in other unsafe conditions so I shouldnt have to worry about some moron gunning it to "see what she can do". Finally he said I could bring the sales receipt in and they could adjust it to reflect accurate mileage lol. As far as I'm concerned these 2 documents are my only leverage against them should I need it. You mentioned it's basically too late to do anything, but is there anything that should be done? I guess if the car blows up in a year from bent valves due to improper break-in maybe I can try to sue or something? Thoughts? |

You'll have better experience of the online car purchase process the next time around. When I purchase mine it took over 24hours of negotiation and the dealer tried to trick me by hiding extra fees in the purchase order, I kicked it back 4 times and told him not to waste my time if the numbers were not what I wanted, I flew in and thoroughly inspected the car and what was stated on sales order before signing anything. I ended up buying the car less than what I had anticipated  Post pics of your cool ride when you get the chance boss! |
I dont mind trying to negotiate in something extra on top, what are some "deal sweeteners" you think I could realistically whine for? They told me my spoiler was ordered and could possibly be here by the end of the week, so as soon as thats attached I'll do some pics. Nothing special really, just a black Z :)

Try to get some extra warranty - like someone said, you don't want to be near the end and be denied.
When I took a test drive, no one from the dealer was in the car, and they never mentioned taking it easy during the test. |
Dude, just let it go...you have an amazing car and you've not mentioned 1 single problem yet, if the car was dealer traded it is what it is, the selling dealer cant be held accountable for the miles put on before they owned it. If I was the dealer that sold it to you, Id tell you get lost, the car has 0 problems and the warranty will be good til 36,225, what more do you want??? You want free stuff over and above?? Be serious...dont be cheap/greedy, just go drive! I cant believe youve wasted so much time worrying and posting about this issue, especially when the car is driving great?!?!?

And while I agree 100% with everyone else about the mileage issue - with the exception that OP should go back and get "compensation" - it honestly is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. 250 miles is about 2% of the average motorist's annual mileage. Look at it this way, you're that much closer to completing your break-in. In other words, you haven't lost any life of your car. It may have been a demo, but you accepted and drove it off the lot. Probabaly not the most scrupulous act by the dealer, but again, lesson learned. And yes, a similar situation happened to me with a new 1985 Supra that was brought in from an out-of-town dealer. As I was driving home, I noticed it had 225 miles on it, AND an ash tray full of cigarette butts. That was skanky. LESSON Learned: 1. try and only buy cars on the dealer's lot; 2. any off lot car is to be TRUCKED from another dealer; 3. do a full walk around, test drive, and odometer check before sitting down to sign anything. 4. PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE - learn to live for another day, there will always be another car available at some point. You've got a great car, so just let this pass and enjoy it. |

Indeed, it has been permanently etched into memory that I will never forget to demand a near 0 mileage car, and that it be trucked in only, if not bought directly from the lot. I've already got it up to 500 miles now in less than a week, so 250 cant be too bad. I also doubt that many customers would try to hit 120mph on the freeway just as part of a demo, so hopefully she was tested gently. Or even better, than she was just sent from a previous dealer because they wanted to have one on the lot.

A tempest in a teapot...the car has no evidence of abuse...wow...this type of response is why people get the ***** of owning a business....the dealer cant help what the previous dealer did mileage wise..if he didnt like the miles he coulda walked. The cars runs well, enjoy it and quit being a "fuss budget" about it.
