Would I be happy with 370Z

See my thread in Nismo section:
http://www.the370z.com/nismo-370z/42...ml#post1325471

Please tell me your thought if someone like me would be better off with non Nismo Z since im planning on modding it.

Hell, i will just copy what i put in Nismo thread:
What up fellas,

I had to sell my E46 M3 in order to buy a house. I can afford both the house and M3 but $800 M3 payment(financed it on 36 months) didnt help my DTI(debt to income) when it came time to buy a house. Houses in Seattle are still expensive, so gotta shell out $300k for a house here which is where DTI came into question.

In all fairness, do any of you see Nismo as an upgrade over my heavily modded M3? I know that interior might be slightly better in M3 but im not too concerned about that. M3 was well balanced which is what i really liked about it, will Nismo provide that "well balanced" factor?

I do like to MOD and mods for Z seem to be a lot cheaper so that should be better.

Im hoping for some honest opinions/feedback and by any chance has anyone here gone from an M to Nismo?

Thanks,
Mookie

Personally speaking, if you're going to be doing a lot of modding, I would go with a base + sport and spend the extra money that the nismo would have been to modify the car.

What kind of numbers was your M3 putting down? I like to think that the Z's aren't a slouch compared to the older M3 platform.

On a side note.. I wish houses were $300k on Long Island

Mookie 09-22-2011 03:01 PM

$300k only buys you 1900 SQ FT, 20 mins north of Seattle.

M3s numbers were right around 310 at the wheels on Mustang dyno

Red__Zed 09-22-2011 03:01 PM

It's really going to depend on your style. Have you test driven one yet?

Mookie 09-22-2011 03:04 PM

Have not test driven one, planning on test driving this on Saturday:
*** 09 NISSAN 370Z *** (only 11369 miles)

kenchan 09-22-2011 03:07 PM

should really look at getting a mustang instead.

Good. Best option is to see what you feel from the car.

The nismo is notably stiffer than the regular z, so don't let that put you off if that bothers you.

What are your plans for the car, modwise? Any track use?

Mookie 09-22-2011 03:13 PM

Mods already planned:

Lower it, mild drop
FI long tube headers, high flow cats and FI exhaust
CarbonSignal fenders
Spacers but stick with stock rims

Down the road:
AP 6/4 BBK
GTM S/C

Long Tube Headers eliminate the cats

Pelican170 09-22-2011 03:17 PM

My opinion would be, since your going to be modding, only base buying the nismo off of its looks (which most do already). The big debate seems to be is the nismo worth the cost. To me, when you add up the cost of the rims alone, plus body work, its a good choice to buy it and its worth it

If you dont care about the looks and only care about modding, then dont get the nismo...

You're gonna want a real rear diff too, i think.
You can't run lth's and hfc's.

Things I'd consider coming from an e46:
Trans feel --not as smooth as e46 trans
Engine sound--gets rough up top
Chassis dynamic--z feels stiffer, tad more understeer though

Just go with Base+Sport. Everything you add will be better then what the Nismo had. Did your M3 just have basic bolt-ons?

He said he was putting down around 310 to the wheels. So I'd hope that's just basic bolt-ons haha

christian370z 09-22-2011 03:31 PM

My 370z with most available bolt ons out ran my friend's full bolt on E46 M3 6MT by a couple car lengths when we went head to head on a closed road. As far as handling dynamics, the M3 will be a bit sharper and a bit more refined but the Z is just as comfortable and can keep up or outrun a modded M3 with comparable mods in my opinion.

Oh, and do you mean debt to income? I was worried for you when you said death to income haha.

I was trying really hard not to be the one to shout out OP about this lol

edub370 09-22-2011 03:34 PM

since you have an m3 you are familiar with battling exhaust rasp. It's no different on the z so be wise with exhuast decisions. also, suspension is a little stiffer on our nissans compared to the m3's. if you have the mod bug then a z is a good platform because they seem to take nicely to most basic bolt-ons

You should have bought my house instead. Although it's a little farther up north than where you are living now. :tiphat:

M3 is not sharper by all means. Z's steering is more direct and handling is more neutral than E46 M3. most importantly Z grips a lot harder entering corners. however, M3 has Z beat on the comfort department by a landslide. i've never had a car that has more road noise than the 370z. my evo ix se was more comfortable than the Z...

i had a stock M3 and now i have a stock 370z base with sports package.

the_student 09-24-2011 05:38 AM

My friend has an e46 M3 and we switch cars once in a while just to drive. Id say performance wise the M3 takes the cake, by a small margin. You also get the extra seats, more luxury items, and that engine is amazing!

The Z is better at road feel (IMO) and a better exhaust note. Plus you get the warranty...haha. The best part about owning the Z is the community I think. At least that is how it is here in NorCal. I went on a Z run in early August and all makes and models were able to join even my M3 friend joined in. The BMW crowd around here is pretty exclusive a little douchie.

UNKNOWN_370 09-24-2011 09:13 AM

Those brems, suspension and wheels on the bimmer look aftermarket. But my impression op is you're a light modder. I say just go for what you like...

If you plan on making your Z a ground up project. Base manual or touring manual. From there you can add your own body kit, LSD, brakes, susp, rims, then go in the engine and go as far as adding FI. But if you plan on adding small mods... intake, exhaust, header, ecu tune, and maybe your only big mod will be a low stqge FI? Your good with a sport or nismo pkg.

I generally agree with you. As far as comfort though I feel the seats were designed for one specific body type. (Which is not good) For me, the seats are very comfy. The only draw back is a lack of lumbar support on long trips. But if I wanted to I could've opted for the touring. I chose not to. I think customizing the stock seat or buying recaros to be a more compelling option than the touring pkg. (Just a personal preference.)
