oil change questions

So its my understanding that the ester oil that comes in the car from the factory is a synthetic oil? Is it true once to go to synthetic from regular oil you can never switch back to regular oil? Someone at work told me that did not know if it was true.

Not true on several counts.
  • It is debatable whether factory fill is Ester at all -- most think it is not
  • Nissan Ester is not a full synthetic and is overpriced crap anyway (I have the UOA's to prove this)
  • You can go from synthetic baclk to dinosaur oil

Your friend gave you some erroneous information, my friend.

There are more threads and posts on oil here than you can shake a stick at. I suggest reading as many as you can and then make a decision on what oil to use.

Be careful though, as everyone has an opinion on oil it seems and the percent of people who actually know something besides anecdotal fluff is small.

Mobil 1 gets good reviews from most people. Personally, I do not use it anymore because my engine seemed noisy after about 2500 miles with the Mobil 1 in it (this is opinion only and not based on anything scientific). The Mobil 1 did deliver strong performance based on the oil analyses I had done.

I currently use Eneos 5w 30 full synthetic.

Ester is recommended but not required, I used Ester for my first oil change, and I plan to change for my next oil change (probably Redline). Here's a link that you will find helpful read through it you may decide what is better yourself. http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ter-oil-2.html
