The Nismo/roadster will be summer releases and might see a 2010 coupe in Q4 of this year after both have launched. This will be all the alignment they need to put them all launching at a similar time, but they may be trying to stagger them as to help production & marketing. Put one product out, then another, then another and the news is always jumping back to you.

The nismo is a 09 and not a 10. I'm assuming because it's out in a month or so. The vert is a 2010.

I bought my 1990 300ZX in March of 1989 as a 1990 model. Does anyone know the legalities of release date versus model year designations? I thought a car released in the current calendar year could have the following year model designation. Makes you wonder if there will be a 40th anniversary year model, hence the 2009 designation for the cars released in January thru the present.

I don't think there are any "legalities" as such. A completely new model is often designated with the followng year assignment if released in the Spring. Continueing models usually wait til after June/July to assume the new model year....

It's more convention than legal. Cars used to be released in their model year, but then they snuck into December of the previous year, and kept getting earlier and earlier. Each manufacturer kept trying to beat the next in releasing new models.

Correct, but I also heard you could not release a model year 2 years early, for example: December of 2008 release a 2010 model.

They've probably set some kind of rule to prevent it going out of control. Otherwise they'd probably be releasing the 2100 model about now

the nismo is gonna be an '09 model since its gonna be out early summer. the vert is set to release late summer '09. that should make it around august or september, making the vert model a 2010.

i know the accords are brand new compared to the '07 and older models but the current version came out sept. 10, 2007.
