Nothing wrong with getting a job by knowing someone, since you are repaying that favor by being a good employee. And yeah, money management skills are great, but you also gotta have it to manage it.
By that logic no one at all has made it without a little help here or there.

Hi. Nice to meet you.

22 turning 23 soon with a double major undergraduate in biology/psychology and entering grad school next semester with 4 years experience in a job not a career but a job that pays enough for a 40k car brand new and lives comfortably , not crazy, comfortably with out fears of a financial crisis. I have no help or favors had.

There IS a break between 18-20 and 20+ on experience and education , yes, but don't clump the early 20s with the late teens.

also, I agree with this.

The other side of the argument really is that there are people of all age groups that take favors to get ahead. Why is that a negative? If you can get help , take it. That's my other 2 cents.

I'll have a year's worth of chemical engineering experience by the time I graduate in the spring. Could have been 2 years, but I got into a car accident on my way to an interview last summer and couldn't reschedule it.

I saw a lot of help from a system that rewards 16 year old high school dropouts that work hard in life.....

I've paid cash for most of the cars I've owned and been self-funded for a long time. No issue dropping 20k on a car at 20, and paying for mods (while paying for school, of course). 22 now, and I own both the wrx and the mustang...paid cash for my z and my s, etc etc. Monthly expenses for me include a condo in reston, $1500+ in flights, and an apartment in Alabama.

Only real hookup I've gotten is a system that tends to financially reward hardworking people with a propensity to do well on standardized testing

I think perception is difficult to regulate.

It's crazy how so many people I've met in the 18-25 age range (not all mind you, so no offense ) think their first job should give them $100k+ with a management position. It seems that the days when people expected to do grunt work for their first 5-7 years and develop basic and fundamental skills are slipping away.

If you're 18 and own a 370Z that's great. If you're working and making decent $ but are not putting yourself through college (hence, the $ for the car) then that's a choice you're making.

Oh, and I'm not that old...mid 30's.

it's ok, as long as the money comes legally.

The title just ask 'How Old were you', not "How did you get the money to buy Z.'

cheers

i was 19 when i first got my z because my parents are dentist and they make sure my credit always stays high I go to school and transferring to UCLA in a year I pay for my own stuff I make sure I pay everything on time. I guess i was lucky first thing i did when i got my credit was bought a condo/time share in Vegas to start my credit. I worked and went to school the same time and made the money that's why I got my 370z cuzz my credit score.

Isn't this a moot point? Like others said, everybody gets to where they are from a little help from somebody. Even the older crowd was given a chance, or a favor or some kind of help along the way. Why does it bother you so much about other peoples business? Watching an 18 year old say they did it them self shouldn't bother you, it should make you feel better about getting a Z on your own hard work.

Its kind of a give/take thing. You have to do your part and be responsible and dedicated once you get that break.

This was spot on! Someone should start a thread "How did you get your Z?"

Whoever is "hating" (fill in with whatever word you desire) on young dudes for having their Z is in denial... You cant tell me that if you were our age and had the means to get this car you wouldn't? If you say you wouldn't then why do you have it now? If me deciding to join the army and get a stable decent paid job on my own (no one helps you join the military!) and make responsible decisions with my money and credit for 4 years is someone helping me out then ya I got help. Thanks Tax payers (including me because I too pay taxes on money that was given to me from my own taxes lmao)
