370Z 40th anniversary rims+tires stolen!

...right from under my nose! I walked into my house last night around 2am, and around 2:30am my neighbor knocked on my door and asked me to come outside. That's when I saw that some super quiet and stealthy thieves had taken my baby's rims and tires.

Since these are 40th anniversary rims, I think they would be easier to spot than others. If anyone in the MIAMI or SOUTH FLORIDA area sees some 40th anniversary 19 inch rays for sale or looking mighty suspicious, please let a brother know!

:(

symple84 09-15-2011 07:27 AM

sucks to hear that...where do you live by I am also in Miami located in Kendall

Did you have wheel locks?

lateralus1179 09-15-2011 07:30 AM

I didn't have wheel locks. I feel like an idiot for not having them now. Regardless, the quickness with which they did this and the fact they hardly made a sound leads me to believe that these guys were pro's. I don't think wheel locks would have made much of a difference.

Regardless, I'll be investing in some wheel locks for my next set.

I live in the Miami Lakes/Country Club area...

red6spd 09-15-2011 07:31 AM

Sorry to hear. Any other damage to the car?

symple84 09-15-2011 07:35 AM

check craigslist for a few weeks if I see any for sale I will keep you in mind

They already had you scouted! Sorry about that.

Insurance?

lateralus1179 09-15-2011 07:48 AM

Full coverage, no other damage to the ride.

Take a look:

No damge? Have you had a good look at her yet? She is sitting on the floor on the front and the Brake Rotor is resting on the ground as well. Good Luck man.

Sure feels like they had me scouted, they knew exactly the time to hit - right when I went into my house.

Some good news: my neighbor has a camera that captured some suspicious vehicles on the street... Also, the police said they found some fingerprints on the car and on the lugnuts that they left in the grass.

These bastards better watch out. I'll keep you guys posted.

I've looked at her really well. That rotor is my only concern, but it doesn't look damaged.

lateralus1179 09-15-2011 07:54 AM

This is what she looked like just yesterday....sigh...

Mike 09-15-2011 08:00 AM

that really sucks

Nick911sc 09-15-2011 08:23 AM

Sorry to hear about this...did you have wheel locks?

TheGreatOne 09-15-2011 08:27 AM

Wow, can't believe that man, takes some balls to do that right on your driveway

Like you said, these should be easy to spot online if a set shows up magically.

HKYStormFront 09-15-2011 09:09 AM

hope they show up for sale, should be easy to spot! sorry to hear that tho. look at the bright side tho. get insurance to get you a new set of wheels and tires now, if you find the other ones later, you've got a track set!

TMAN1985 09-15-2011 09:13 AM

That really sucks, sorry to hear this. I just got OEM Nissan wheel locks about 2 weeks ago after reading about another situation like this. If you buy wheel locks MAKE SURE you get OEM locks. The keys are all different and the locks fit correct. The aftermarket locks have keys that are the same and they don't fit properly.

TMAN1985 09-15-2011 09:14 AM

P.S. I saw someone selling a set of rims a week or so ago on here 40'th anniversary for like 800 plus shipping I think

EDIT: SOLD :(

Forget the wheel locks and get a good alarm. Wheel locks will just make them come back the next day if they forgot to bring a rubber hammer.

onzedge 09-15-2011 10:07 AM

I hope they get what is coming to them. Karma can be a real evil mistress.

TongMan 09-15-2011 10:26 AM

gone in 60 seconds..thats pro right there

doink 09-15-2011 11:16 AM

Don't the Zs come with stock alarms? Also wondering if you can add tilt sensor to the stock alarm?

butdamnbrian 09-15-2011 11:18 AM

i don't see anything on miami craigslist yet... keep an eye out..

Good to see the police actually doing some real forensics work, hope they successfully identify those prints so you can nail those pieces of dirt. This always is terrible to see, I couldn't imagine seeing my car like that. :(

cossie1600 09-15-2011 12:15 PM

We are in the US of A. Unless they have prior criminal records, they are not going to find jack.

TMAN1985 09-15-2011 12:24 PM

I'm sure they have been arrested before.

Footloose301 09-15-2011 12:25 PM

Death penalty is in order for this.

Rui Z 09-15-2011 12:43 PM

That sucks. Are u gonna get new anniversary rims or go aftermarket?

I'm pretty sure the only thing that will set off the factory alarm is opening a door or hatch. No tilt or break glass sensor. It should be easy to add, just put it in series with any door alarm wire.

11Thumper 09-15-2011 01:38 PM

Sorry to hear. Why didn't you have wheel locks? My advice...you can look for the ad on craigslist and if you see something tell the police. Don't take this into your own hands, it isn't worth it.

Gauge 09-15-2011 01:40 PM

Nothing is so silent my dogs can't hear it. These guys will bark if someone is within a block of my place lol. I'd be inclined to open the door if I knew they were up to no good...

I hope those prints show up. In FL you have to worry about illegals man.

zmyride 09-15-2011 01:43 PM

To the OP, sorry to hear about that.

That's why i etched my initials on the wheels on the inside. Just use a pushpin or nail to do it. this way if the wheels get stolen, you can identify them easily if they're found.

lateralus1179 09-15-2011 04:27 PM

Thanks to all who posted and who feel my pain! Here's an update:

With regards to the case, my neighbor dropped off the video his surveillance cameras took. These guys worked in teams. Two cars drove down the block, a white chevy malibu looking-car and another behind it which is clearly a silver chevy monte carlo. The white car stayed more or less near the front of my house while the silver car went around the block and then is captured turning his lights off and PARKING at the far parallel end of my block (the lookout).

It took maybe 10 minutes, tops.

After this the parked car turns its lights on and leaves. No one ever gets out of this car.

Later, the video shows my neighbor getting home and then after that, the police arriving. Unfortunately the camera angle is off so I don't have a clear and direct view of my house, but I do have a clear view of the two vehicles involved. When the detective calls today I'll give him this information.

I'm posting this in the hope that you guys will read it an understand how these people work. If you see a pair of suspicious looking vehicles in your neighborhood you will think twice now.

Maybe we'll catch these bastards!

krzykanuk 09-15-2011 04:54 PM

That sucks. Seeing as how often 370Z rims seem to get stolen, they really should have serial numbers. Two of mine have so much curb rash I wish they'd get stolen. Or maybe that's why they haven't been stolen.

dirtrat 09-15-2011 06:37 PM

Maybe your neighbor took them. What was he doing up at 2:30 AM and how was it he just happened to notice your wheels were gone in the middle of the night RIGHT after they were stolen.

gr8-wrx 09-15-2011 07:07 PM

Make sure you check under your car for damage. They probably weren't too careful about using the proper jack points.

SPOHN 09-15-2011 10:07 PM

They had to follow you home and went for the score. Those were defiantly the wrong wheels to take. It might as well have been a neon sign in a dark room.

happytheman 09-15-2011 10:11 PM

I'll keep my eyes open here in Central FL.

Sorry that happened to ya man, and hope the bastards get caught.

lateralus1179 09-16-2011 10:50 AM

There was damage found on the underside of the car because they didn't use the proper jack points. The cinderblock pushed up through the bottom of the frame.

Neighbor couldn't have taken them, he shows up on the surveillance video arriving on the scene just 10 minutes or so after the theft.

Footloose301 09-16-2011 01:10 PM

Perhaps he had knowledge of it...
