tough to shift into first

may not be a problem or may be, but recently i have been having a little issue every once in a while where the clutch just refuses to go into first gear. I push the clutch all the way to the floor and it still refuses to go into gear and seems to be limited to just first gear and has happened once in reverse also. Should i take it in to the dealer to have them check it out as the car only has 2400 miles on it so far?

Its normal for a manual tranny to have a little trouble getting into first from a stop sometimes, especially if she is still cold. How do you end up getting it in eventually? When it happens to me I just put it in reverse real quick move the car a tad then go to first and she slips in like buttaaaa LOL.

Is the car moving or standing?

Z_ealot 09-02-2011 07:19 PM

hmm, i'll have to try that, but yes it only seems to happen when trying to move it into first from a standstill

Is it all the time or only when she is cold??? If it just happens hear and there its normal.

SPOHN 09-02-2011 07:26 PM

This has happen a couple of times to me in both my Z's and all my MT cars I've owned at one point in time Especially when cold. Try putting it in second while still holding the clutch down then go to first. Also try going to first and hold pressure to it till it may slip in.

Z_ealot 09-02-2011 07:26 PM

just seems to happen here and there when the car is warmed up, havent had it happen to me when the car is cold yet

Z_ealot 09-02-2011 08:27 PM

cool, thanks alot guys and sorry if this has been asked before, just a little paranoid about every little thing on this car at the moment since it's all still new to me as far as learning it's little habbits lol

wdkwang 09-02-2011 08:37 PM

Does it like partially go into first gear (like you know its in the first gear area but not all the way in)? or like doesn't even move from neutral?
And try going LEFT + UP... like a "L" shape instead of going diagonal like "\".
And when doing "L" make sure to go all the way to the left then up...
but it has happened to me couple of times where I tried go first and it gets kinda stuck in between first and neutral (like not all the way in but partially in first gear)...

LOL when this happened... what i did was, I just put it in second and just drove off =)... lol idk if thats a good or bad for the car... but done it twice so far...

lol, thats exactly what happens to me, but the "L" doesnt seem to work for me, went driving around for a while tonight though and havent had it stick on me once, go figure....but i will remember the whole shift into second then first if it does happen again. Thanks again everyone for the help :)

DJ-of-E 09-03-2011 03:37 PM

Too bad you can't come to the so-cal z meet tonight. Some of us could take a seat in your car and test if there's something wrong with the tranny because......we all drive our z's. I have not yet once got 1st gear stuck on me, even on cold. Then again, I always go reverse first before switching to 1st.

Z_ealot 09-03-2011 04:28 PM

lol, when did ever say i wasnt coming to the meet tonight :D
