Dip stick reading after oil change at dealership

so today i had redlands nissan in CA perform a oil change on my Z.
( i live in palmsprings )

after all day of driving ( nothing out of the norm) i came home and check the dip stick see how the oil level is.

after pulling the dip stick out,i see the oil level is a little above the L sign

shouldnt it be around F or atleast half that?

i find it a bit strange that my oil level is super low .

i drove it a good 120miles after oil change.

is it me to think that the dealership did a half butt job ?
or is it the z motors are weird like that ?

How long did you wait before checking the level? Were you on flat ground?
I'd rather it be a little low after a change than too high. Low us easy to fix.

I always check the oil level after an oil change by the dealer.

I don't think that within 120 miles your dip stick you be reading below L and especially after an oil change.

I usually wait for the car to have cooled down quite a bit and its usually between 80% on the way to F or all the way to F after oil changes for me.

If the car was recently running it is definitely possible to make the oil level register near L.

i wouldn't worry to much about the dealership you went to, back when i had my 05 3.5 altima i had them service it on a number of occasions and they always did a decent job although i have to say they are one of those dealerships that will recommend things you don't need done.

That's something I would recheck a couple of times and make sure you arent getting a false reading. If you are correct? Look for leaks and at the same token, take it to the dealer so they can reinspect there work.

I check the dip stick 3-4 hours after shut down.

Will check in a little bit , thanks guys

3-4hrs is plenty cool. hummmm... hard to tell with the bottom cover on, but check for any leaks and add oil as necessary.

Did u say that u DID check it 3 to 4 hrs after shut down and still got the above L reading? Or did u mean that's something u will do? Lol

But anyways 3 to 4 hrs should be sufficient for a good reading. If it is truly that low even after sufficient cool down, I'd go back to dealer.

basically pour more oil and then check again. Then check again a week later if you're "burning oil."

I checked it just now and the oil reading is on par . Just a tad below H

I guess it takes a bit of time for the oil to drain out from the engine .

My garage is 110degree at night time .thanks guys. Case closed

Glad it's ok. Why not learn to change oil yourself since you have a garage? That would avoid this type of issue.

^ 1 for a guy with an rx7 I would think he is pretty adept at changing oils.
