Default Expensive screw....

2011 Sport Touring. Got in it yesterday morning and tire pressure warning was lit. Right rear was down 10 lbs. I aired it up checked it later that day and it was down again. On inspection, I found a small foreign object in the center part of the tire. I though no problem, I'll go get it patched. I figured it would be better to pull it myself rather than risk the tire shop putting it on the rack, so I removed the tire. Unfortunately, on doing so I found that the little thing in the middle of the tread was just a little rock and there was a big sheet rock screw on the outside edge, about 1/2 inch from the sidewall .

Took it to the local National Tire & Battery - they're the only tire store in the area with a "no-touch" tire machine (whatever that is) and locally known for special care in dealing with expensive wheels. $460 installed and balanced for a Potenza 275/35-19

I guess I could have gone cheaper - would have saved about $50 overall from Tirerack.com. Oh well...next time.

I had a concrete nail go through the passenger side rear and it couldn't be patched either.

Ouch, feel your pain bro. First weekend I had the car got a nail through the sidewall of the back left tire. Can't be patched, 700 bucks later (I'm in Canada).

$700 so is that $300 toward your "free healthcare"?

Yeh, shredding a Potenza on the highway would have been a bad thing for rim and bodywork. Now, if only NTB's "no touch" tire machine lives up to its reputation....the service mgr told me that, once the tire comes in, we have to wait for the "special tire tech" to be on duty because he's the master of that particular machine.

I was lucky to have a "cheap screw" was able to patch up in the rear right for 20 bucks!
