From 370Z to 2011 Lexus IS-F
Opinions?
I test drove the IS-F yesterday and financing is already lined up, but i just can't seem to pull the trigger. At first i thought the choice was simple, but the Lexus just seems to be missing the WOW factor that my Z has. And although it's got a 5 liter V8 and supposedly can run a mid 12 in the 1/4 mile stock... it doesn't seem that fast and even with the paddle shifters is kind of boring to drive. Interior is prestine. I love the luxury feel of it and when you do want to step on it.... it definitely goes. The handling is also amazing for the 2011's. Lexus really stepped their game up on the IS-F in that respect. The question is... is it worth 60k+ and worth getting rid of "Lola". |
The one i'm thinking about purchasing is white like the picture below....
PS. Those Vossen CV3's look unbelievable on that car. http://cdn.lexusenthusiast.com/image...-vvs-cv3-1.jpg |

Well, luxury takes away that road feel. It is a fast car, and it is plush.
imo no toyota is worth 60 clams, but that's a matter of opinion, and only you know if trading a 2-seat agile sports car for a four-seat luxo box with a big engine is worth it for you. also imo those vossens look terribad on that car, but again, personal preferences vary. |
My CV3s should be in next week. Hope they look as awesome on my car.
|
get the F then you will drool over the next Z you see on the road!

Pure sports car vs. luxury/sport 4 door. You need to evaluate what you're looking for in a car....something more practical with a punch, or an impractical sports car that is much more fun to drive. On a side note, if your gonna spend that kinda $, why not look at the cts-v instead? Same price point, more aggressive styling, more power, and same luxury feel. |
If you are thinking of an ISF then get the better car the M3 BMW. Then you can have the wow factor back.
|
Every corner you take you'll be thinking about how you're dragging that extra 7 inches of wheelbase and 500 lbs. of weight through it. But if you only care about driving in a straight line, then go for it.
|
Do you need the extra seats? It not, then why?
|
Very Nice Car!
|
The IS-F is a nice luxury sports sedan but it is not a sports car. If you want comfort and luxury then by all means get the IS-F. I thank you for being honest in your assessment of both cars. I knew it couldn't have been just me who felt that the IS just felt no faster and softer than the Z. I wouldn't trade my Z and OP if you are going to pay all that $ and not get that tickle from driving then don't do it. If you do the only reason you're going to rave about the IS-F is because you paid so much not because of the actual feel.

I looked at the IS-F, went with the M3
|
if you're going to go 4 door, cts-v FTW for sure!

Side note, I kept with a coupe |
Just buy a IS 350 for the luxury, and then keep the z for the fun! They add up to be about the same price as the IS-F

Although, the ISF is really nice but if you're looking for something sportier, the cts-v could be considered as an option as well
|
they should name that car IS-F&F. :icon17: ;) i dont like toyota's in general.
|
Don't get it, you will regret it. I'm nit basing that on the car but from reading your original post. If you want something else, wait til you find something that moves you.
|
im trading my IS in this week, and i can tell you from experience that when you lower it, you definitely feel the road more.
|
IMO there's nothing 'sporty' about a 4 door sedan. The IS-F is a great car for a family man that needs a couple extra seats and works an exec gig where he needs to truck around clients from time to time. If the above scenario is NOT describing you then I would rather have a Cadillac CTS-V for the same amount of $$ if you're just looking for a change.
|
And what someone else said already... No Toyota is worth 60 clams. (except maybe the new LF-A)
|
Nice and robust engine, but it looks just like the IS250 and IS350 minus the quad exhaust setup. It seems like you don't like it fully. Wait and buy something that you fully adore. Used GTR?

BTW - I looked at IS before buying my G37, and it was no contest. |
Looks like a mom car.

Usually if your on the fence about something that means that you dont really want to do it, which means dont do it. If you need the extra seats then go for it and sacrifice on the Wow factor, if its not about the room, and you just want a change, then for 60k and getting rid of a Z, I say no deal.

I thought about it for a second... and just the fact that some other dude farted in the car and probably beat the **** out of it. No deal. Quote:

A friend of mine has one and he removed the muffers & it sounds great without any compromise. He put a 125 shot of Nitrous on it to give it that put-away kick, but the price & 4 doors keep me away, I respect Toyota for developing & bring this car to the market.

I say if you need 4 seats? Test drive a bunch of cars. At 60k. There's a huge option of sports sedans that drive well. From AMG mercedes, CTS-V, BMW m3, the lexus you have already driven, audi S4, infiniti G and M series, and I'm sure I'm probably missing a few options. Just for comparisons sake, I would also check out the hyundai genesis 5.0 R-spec. That car getting is share of hooplah...
Test drive them all first. That's what makes the process both informative and fun. The Z driving characteristics are fun unique and addicting. Like everyone has said, If you can't keep the Z? Get something that will inspire you. Don't jump in the first car you test. |
