Question regarding MD inspection and window tint.

I bought my 40th at a dealership in PA, and totally forgot I would have to get it inspected in MD. Well this morning, I received an email from the dealership asking about the copy of the MD inspection. I put 20% tint on the sides and back...will this cause the inspection to fail? Please tell me there is some way around it...

Nick,

First, this should probably go in the Mid-Atlantic Regional forum.

Secondly, I believe that the tint will cause the inspection to fail. My advice would be to get advice from one of our local garages, such as AAM Competition, Hill's Garage, Agile Automotive, or some of the others in the region.

Good luck

Unless you know a guy and/or can slide him some bills to pass you - window tint will fail MD inspection.

Happened to me when I brought my Civic in from California... it had 5% all around except windshield and I could not pass inspection.

Do I pay for the inspection, even if it fails? I've never had to get a car inspected before.

how dare you post outside the Mid-A section!

I'm not sure how that works out. I believe you can ask the MVA for an extension, but you will probably have to pay for the inspection, and if it fails, they will give you a list of items that have to be corrected in order to pass.

When I paid for inspection on my Civic and it failed because of the 5% tint, I just peeled it off and went back to the place and they passed me on the spot - no additional charges. After I moved over my title and everything from CA to MD I got it re-tinted to MD legal 35%.

What he said. You might get a pass for your tint at some shady garage doing the inspection. Some look the other way if a $20 magically fall off your wallet and on your seat

Wow, it's going to be about $100 just to get the tint removed. Is that difficult to do myself? The original shop that put the tint on recommended trying to get a doctors note. I don't wear glasses or contacts...so is that route impossible?

With 20%, I'd take your chances. A lazy guy isn't gonna notice most of the time.

You should get one free reinspection.

Not if the sunlight causes you headaches, and I have a funny feeling they do.

Not if the sunlight causes you to burn like a True Blood vampire ...

So what happens if I decide not to get it inspected? I never receive the title? I don't get it until the car is payed off anyways right?

If you don't get it inspected, it won't get registered, and you'll get a hefty ticket for a non-registered vehicle. Trust me, it's a lot better to get it inspected. Or if it is registered, they'll suspend the registration and give you a hefty ticket.

Or...what if I roll the windows down and have it inspected? Haha.
