Yeah well I dont live in the ghetto, or in a bad area, infact I live in a upper-middle class commuinty, and even the highway I commute to has mostly people from my town and neighboring travelling to Hartford (the capital of CT) where most ppl are at desk jobs...so its not like im dealing with no good, drop out bums, its educated to highly educated folks acting a fool as well. So I dont really think geography and demographics really plays a role in this, although im sure there are much more higher end cars in So Cal, and way more Ferraris and Lambos running round, but people are people no matter where you go, and attitudes wont change.

This kinda reminds me of the lady who flipped me off, but she was a tad bit older. :bowrofl:

christian370z 08-11-2011 09:43 PM

I've never had a lot of what has been mentioned happen. Mostly because I think people have less respect or are less willing to talk to me once they realize a young looking guy is driving. 50% of the time, older people give me the "look at that spoiled brat" type stare. I am extremely lucky and privileged to have parents that helped me buy it (did a half/half deal) but I never take it for granted.

Young women love it though, I cruise with my brother by the beach in Newport and I have got a number of thumbs up from chicks. My favorite was this pretty girl in a semi-riced Civic; I did a little WOT pull and passed her on the highway and once we both stopped at a light in town, she kept looking and smiling. I waved and she said that was awesome, it made my night for sure!

I am in the chicago area and have seen nothing but jealous looks so far. Kinda cool because driving a sport bike before provided very mixed looks

Absolutely right on that...No one gives a crap about my car in L.A. other than some enthusiasts who give a head nod or a thumbs up.

Woah there...I think you missed my point. I never implied that you lived in a poor neighborhood, nor did I imply that those around you were "no good drop out bums". When I spoke of demographics, I didn't mean socioeconomic status, but rather ethnic background. My assumption is that your area has less Asians compared to where I live, L.A., therefore you stand out more, and probably the reason the nice white lady flipped you off for no reason. (I could be wrong, maybe you cut her off or did something else to piss her off that you didn't realize.)

I'm Asian and I drive a Z, just like you, however I don't experience any of the things you described in your OP. So the variables in this equation seems to be area (geography) and people (demographics) that has lead to our vastly different experiences in Z ownership. Sorry if you misunderstood my point...didn't mean to offend.

Hmm...you bring up a valid point, true there are fewer Asians where I live, however, its not like we are uncommon. :icon17: Every 4 of 10 people are Asian. So I don't see why it would even be a demographic thing either..I still feel you cant generalize it because whether you are black, white, hispanic, asian, doesnt matter, this type of behavior happens because of people we now call haters. plain and simple...people who dont like to see other people succeed in life, and when they do they make sure they give u a hard time about it. Cuz wats to say another asian wont do the same thing? I get what you are saying in differencces in owining a Z where u live and where I live but I bet there are just as much people that probably hate over there, just not to u. Its human nature I guess, sad but becasue of the economy and other issues people really have resorted to this type of behavior in order to express their jealously towards others. and about the lady who flipped me off, it might have been because of something else that I failed to recognize but as far as I remember I did nothing wrong.

I admit it.... I have. To pick up a tool that I needed or couldn't find during a mod.

TheGreatOne 08-12-2011 01:00 PM

couple days back I had the shopping cart guys at the IGA (grocery store) compliment me and ask me to do a burn out and leave skid marks in the parking lot....

lol, it was late but i said no.... but I gave them a slight peel out so they could hear the exhaust..saw the grins on their faces in my rear view...i like that stuff.

most people are respectful...and notice me. I will say one thing about the guy commenting he was Asian, I think I get even more looks in the Z cause i'm black lol.

I mean, I've seen this other black dude driving a sick Porsche GT3 and another driving a Austin Martin Vantage around my area but most others are driving old Altima's or G20 sedans with heavy tint and those gold crown air fresheners on the dash lmao

I had a lady pull up next to me the other day in her late 40s early 50s prolly, and give me the finger....I dont know why but by the way she zoomed off and looked at my car in disgust I was like uhhh...really? :bowrofl: Are people really that much haters....I find it funny, but then when the cops get in on it its not. One cop decided to follow me down a road then he pulled up next to me, gave the glance then shaked his head...then before the light turned green he floored it ( and went no where) but still managed to leave me at the red light confused. Has anyone else experienced this type of behavior since you have gotten a Z, I mean sheesh I know its a nice car and all....but relax people. Also ESPECIALLY other tuners, or muscle cars act the most annoying...sorry mustang lovers but all u mustang pppl (especially the older ones before 2002ish) always try to "race" me, even when im just cruising on the highway. They intentionally tailgate me and then speed off...like im suppost to chase them? :ugh2::bowrofl: I dont mean to intetnionally show off, I can afford it so I drive it. Never had this problem when I had my T-bird....I wonder what has changed.....:roflpuke2: :driving:

OP, I know what you mean and all, as I have had this happen as well. But in your case with the lady giving you the finger, are you sure you didn't accidentally cut her off, or tail gate her, or pass her, etc... or do anything that would warrant her reaction? My point is, she still should not have reacted that way, but I'm saying it may have been possible that you accidentally (not INTENTIONALLY) did something to her that would have made her react that way.

Reason why I say this is some people are just weird that way...... they see you making a perfectly legal lane merge or a legal pass on a 2 lane road, and they get all huffy...

Yeah well it was on a two lane road, she was behind me and I was going as per the speed limit, she was tailgating me, then I slowed down for the red light and she just floored it and cut into the other lane in next to me, while we were both waiting for the green she stood there looked at my car, ( i dont even think she looked at me) and gave me the finger I was like uhh? :bowrofl: Then she gave me the disgust look and floored it when it turned green, I went about my way, letting her go ( I met her at the next light but she didnt even look) soo yeah idk i did just notice her rust bucket station wagon tho :roflpuke2:

That's just another Hater man. It comes with the territory. Just shake the haters off, she's not the last one you'll run into. I ran into more haters at Tom Peacock Nissan when i pulled in for a test drive in a 2012 Acura TL (salesman and possible customers), it was a loaner while my Acura was being serviced. To top it off, they didn't even have a Z for me to test drive that wasn't a roadster (very unprofessional dealership). Long story short, I found the perfect dealership for Z enthusiast here in Houston, Baker Jackson North. I'm just waiting for Nissan to release the pre- order list for the 2012 model, there's a shortage of Z's here in Houston, a bunch of roadsters available though. :driving:

You know the funny thing is the exact same thing happened to me, I went to a dealership in CT (Harte Nissan) and all they had for me to test drive was a roadster as well, I guess the shortage of vehicles because of the tsunami in Japan was to blame, but that was one of the main Nissan dealerships in CT, if they didn't have them I don't know who would. That dealership also told me it might be about 3 to 4 months till we get any coupes. So I contacted dealerships outside CT, and then I found one in Philly and NJ. Finally went with the one in NJ (since it was the color i wanted, red) went down on a Monday put in a deposit and picked it up the following Saturday. The people there were really nice, Classic Nissan in NJ, would recommend them to anyone around the NJ, NY, CT area.

I forgot to add in my post that Tom Peacock Nissan didn't offer a roadster for a test drive, I wound up test driving a test driving a base model at Baker Jackson North. I was very impressed with Baker Jackson North, they were very professional. To be honest, i had a problem with Tom Peacock back in 1997 when i had a 1987 nissan Maxima at the time (needed injectors replaced under TSB), had to get approved through corporate two weeks later, sure enough, none of the service managers or advisors were around when i was called by corporate to pick the up the Maxima from Tom Peacock . To be honest, i just went there because they were down the street from the Acura dealer i've been going to since 2001. I always told my wife i would end up buying my first Z from Baker Jackson.

Tauruszguy 08-13-2011 10:58 PM

Ok Im glad I'm not the only one! I thought I was just being paranoid because when I drive my Z I notice so much more bs driving going on. All kinds of nonsense! When I drive my Mini Cooper to work it always seems to be a much more pleasant drive.... all smiles and sunshine around me lol. I drive the Z and its madness and chaos. The WORST is the people that purposely flick their cigarettes out at my car and give you that Eff U look. This thread just confirms my suspicions. I wonder if I put stripes and a Union Jack on the Z if things would change? LOL Now there's a photoshop challenge! :)

Z_ealot 08-14-2011 12:59 AM

i know how everyone here feels exactly now as i awoke yesterday morning to find that someone had actually spit on the driver side window and i've only had the car for a week now. I mean who the hell spits on someone elses car nowadays really?

USMCASA 08-14-2011 08:32 AM

yesterday afternoon got behind some illegals in a jeep grand cherokee (old and beat up) and they are doing 40 in a 55 and i'm about 5 car lengths back to prevent chips. when the passing zone comes up they speed up, though not enough for me to get around when they swerve at me as i go around. just have one thing to say, glad i got the sport package. its bigger brakes showed them how fast it would stop and they ended up in the ditch lol had to stop to miss a squirrel

Nick911sc 08-14-2011 08:52 AM

I'm new to the Houston area, and have been amazed at the lack of Z inventory, not only in the Houston area, but Dallas and San Antonio as well. So far, I've had no luck locating a Silver Touring 7 AT with Sport and Nav.

While one local dealer had one listed on their web site, the car had been sold. To date, I've actually found only one car so-equipped, but didn't like the color. I'm just going to wait for the spring.

Can you recommend an Acura dealer for service? My wife has an MDX.

i had a chick follow me off highway 40 into a taco bell drive thru line just to flip me off because i passed her right as she put her blinker on to overtake the car infront of her. i honestly think women don't know what mirrors on a car are for...

People would randomly flip me off in my F_body. Act a fool in their big trucks around it trying to show off how fast their F250 with just a chip can accelerate to 100, etc. It's not different in my "z". People are just stupid. You don't change it by driving a different car, you just bring it out in different ways depending on the car you are driving.

Not to counteract your experiences, but I'm local to this dealership and I would -not- recommend them to anyone.

I have had bad experiences with them personally, and I believe there was a story on the forum about how poorly they treated a customer about a year ago.

A lowered miata and body kit(ted) Scion TC sandwiched me and proceeded to try and race me on the three way "road" to the movie theater. It is not an actual road but more of a paved path to the movie theater around the shopping center. That miata really put me to shame as he took off and I didnt even go past 25 mph lol.
