Door Dings
As much as we all try to avoid door dings, they still sometimes happen.
Are the 370Z's aluminum doors more prone to dings than standard metal doors? Would they be more expensive or harder to repair? Fortunately for me, I've been "ding free" on my last three cars through careful parking place selection. My wife's MDX looks like the dark side of the moon! I'm going in on Saturday to negotiate a deal on a new Z, so keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks! |
yes, alminum is a biotch to PDR depending on how deep and where it is. it's doable though.
more prone to dings? i dont think so. aluminum is more brittle than steel. |
Dings mess up all cars. So does bird poop, rocks, idiots in minivans, etc. Unless you plan to keep this a showpiece for 50+ years, do your best to take care of it and enjoy it.
Good luck on the negotiations. |
I just found a door ding on the passenger door after washing my car the other day. Scraped some of the paint clean off and left a very small crater :icon14:

2002 bmw x5 with 90k miles, I used to care until people gave me more and more dings and then everything started to fail... Money pit I tell you!

Yup, PDR guys hate aluminum but the guy that did my hood (hail damage) did a great job. Can't tell it was ever dinged.
Good luck! |

What I did to prevents dings was right after I took delivery of my Z I drove straight over to the local Mazda dealer and had them switch out my old flimsy Z doors for some Miata doors.
