Default Roadtrip report and wrong gas put in car

Just recently got back from a 1000+ mile trip. This was my first long trip with my car. Overall I'm pretty happy with the comfort of the car although at the age of 50 I can tell you that 8 hours of driving per day is about my limit. The leg room on the passenger side is pretty lmited although my son is shorter and he didn't do much driving. We made a stop right before we hit a large mountain range (4800 ft) to get gas and I asked my son to fill the tank while I hit the restroom. He forgot about the 91 octane requirement and put 7 gallons of 87 octane in the tank. I was a little concerned because of the mountains we were about to climb. The car ran perfectly the entire trip and as soon as we were over the mountains I filled up again with some 92 octane to mix it up. I also notice 2 new problems on the car during the trip. I found an annoying rattle in the dash behind the stereo while driving certain parts of I-5. I also have a high pitched whine that occassionaly comes from my AC fan. I'll need to get these taken care of before my 1st year of the warranty is over. Overall I'm pretty happy with the car for a long trip. Not as comfortable as a large sedan but it was tolerable.

You should be fine with the gas issue. I also have rattles from the same area. Course there's all kinds of noise with my type of exhaust. 8 hours is a long time for myself also.

If the high pitch whine is coming from the passenger footwell, it may well be the ECU and not the AC.

I recently drove ten hours (approx. 700 Miles) all in one day in a 2011 Touring w/MT and sport package. Not a bad drive at all. Ride is firm but tolerable. Radio works great. Averaged about 27 mpg and 68 mph. Fun car to drive....and I'm older than 50! No rattles to date and I've got 6k miles on the vehicle.

I've only got about 5500 miles on mine now. I only heard the rattle on rougher highways and am wondering if the dealer will even be able to find it. I'm concerned they may make things worse trying to fix it. I usually have my stereo turn up and never heard it before. I'm thinking of letting them try because after that first year I'm on my own.

You should be fine running junk gas as long as it doesn't have water/debris in it and you don't get on it. Just baby it, run it down to 1/8 tank, and put in some 93* and forget about it.

I drove my 09 sports package from Salt Lake City to Chicago (about 1400 miles) with only stopping for fuel/snacks/bathroom lol. I was a pretzel when I got there but I had a blast doing it!!! This was the last part of a roadtrip starting in Chicago to Las Vegas and back about 4500 miles total. Ahhhh the memories! Just curious if anyone here has done similar trips like this in their Z?

ECU and knock sensor will retard timing immediately to prevent engine knock in the event of low grade gas. You're fine, no worries. As long as you've got premium back in there again.
