OP: Remember bro, allotments are your friend. oh and get the Z. I wish I had gotten one when i was still in the service, but because of recent financials, I am doing the regret one day, hope the next. |
Hmm. When I was younger with little kids, I went with a modified Camaro for the back seats, cheap price, and it was great I coud still have a blast while hauling the wife and two kids. But really what you need with a family is two or even three cars. Now I have 3 kids, the Z and a huge 8 seat SUV for the family, it's only in rare circumstances when I have a conflict with kid hauling, and when that happens I just rent something for a day for $50. When (if) the wife goes back to work full time-ish, we'll get a third car like an A4 or 1M (if I get my way) with back seats.
You could get the Z and always trade in later, but if this might be the case, definatley buy a used car, that way you're not losing your shirt trading in 3 years. |

My wife and I were married ten years before we had our son. By then our careers were well established, we had a ton of equity in our second house, and we has gotten the travel bug out of our systems for awhile. By then, we had gone through three RX-7's, a Supra, and an MR2. Settling into a string of haulers - Explorer, Expedition, Odyssey, MDX - seemed easier. Now that Jr. is in college, The new house is paid for, and I'll pay cash for my new Z. I know it's hard to give up things when credit is easy to get, but 10 - 15 years from now, you'll be thanking us. Best advice I ever received was follow this - short term sacrifices bring huge long term gains. Again, best of luck and God bless you and your family while you serve our country. I sincerely thank you for your service and sacrifice. gurney |
Since the OP is deploying and in the service, None of us have anything to say about family planning. That is a tough nut to be in and we wish you the best over there. Depending on how long you are gone, you should sell your existing car and sit on some cash or short term invest and save. Not having car insurance at 22 will really help. Pull the trigger on a good deal from a forum member or buy one when you get back. IMHO you are just losing money having the car sit there without the ability to enjoy it.

Don't hold onto a car you can't drive, its a waste of money.

Definitely 370Z after you re-deploy.
Stay safe. |
Just buy a cheap second car.

btw, do they still have that DSP(?) where you give the military 10grand and you are given 11 grand back after the deployment? well actually it would be less now. you kids stay over there for less than a year. (be thankful)
but if they still have that, do it man. and easy extra grand. maybe it was GSP... I remember cuz its one letter away from TSP.... |
