Default hit and run insurance question

Hey guys, just walked back to my car after going to the beach and not to pleased with what I saw
There is an actual hole in the rear bumper and the panel right next to it is pretty damaged too. (bumper will for sure have to be replaced)

Question about insurance:
They said I can chose whatever body shop I want and they (the insurance company) will take care of the estimate/payment and everything else. However, I was already wanting an aftermarket bumper, can I just have the insurance cover that? Can I just chose a Nissan body shop and have them replace it with a nismo bumper or something? (dont worry, I would remove the nismo emblem if it came with any)
Any info or past experiences on this situation would help as this is my first collision problem

Thanks for the help

When my Civic Si got rear ended by some chick on her cell phone insurance did an estimate and cut me a check right there in the office for the total damage.

When you take it to the body shop and they start pulling apart stuff they may find supplemental damage and insurance in most cases will cut the shop a check directly. The check they give you - you are free to do with what you want (ie: buy after market bumper instead of OEM) and all you would have to do is cover the difference of the labor left to fix your car. Just tell the shop you are getting work done that you will be supplying the bumper and for them to not order one.

The replacement bumper might not be covered in the future. Depends on insurance company and your policy.

you can use the money to get the aftermarket bumper, if it gets damaged later down the road and the bumper costs more than the factory one they will only cover up to the amount of the factory one unless you get additional coverage for the aftermarket parts.

I literally just did this. My insurance company wrote my body shop a check, and I worked with my tech at Cerritos Nissan collision to order a nismo front bumper. My deductible is $1000. I purchased a cf hood which was $580 and that is being deducted from my deductible. So basically my deductible is $420, and I ended up with a nismo bumper and cf hood!

What do you mean hole in the bumper? A hole drilled? Or like a giant crack? How can a hole be caused by collision with another car?

Default Insurance claim..tips

I do Insurance, so here are some options I tell my clients here in AZ.

1. Get an estimate from your shop of choice
2. The factory bumper might be fixed at a lower amount and you
keep the xtra cash.
3. Minus your deductible have the shop work with you on a
cash deal, most shops speak that language.
4. If the car is within 2yrs of being new demand a NEW bumper NO
aftermarket $ullshit. Tell adjuster that is what you want and go to a supervisor if he gives you any trouble...MAINLY because today they send out FU..*&(^*ng^ surveys..and you know they want high marks!!
5. Most the time the client need to make an attempt to catch the culprit by calling the police or the manager of the shopping center etc...Do this first..
Good Luck......
