Who owns Porsches and a 370Z?
This is not a thread about Porsche vs. 370Z. Rather, I would like feedback from members who actually have owned Porsches for years and currently have the 370Z.
I love my Z. I still love my 911. At comfort and speed, I do not think my 911 would win. However, I 'feel' like my Z does not 'hug' the roads and curves as much as the 911. I think my Z sways a lot more and I am not as confident as in the 911. What do I need? Sway bars? Lower it using the Eibach springs? I want my Z to on rails as the 911. Lastly, I thought I read that Z alignment is limited. Can I get it aligned to the factory camber/caster/toe once I install the Eibach springs? Thanks a million. |

ive driven a cayman s and have ridden in the passenger seat of a 997 911-s. Both cars surpass the Z by a pretty big margin in terms of performance. Porsche just has the driving dymanics down. The feedback, connectedness to the road, steering input, the raw-ness yet civilized when you want it to be are all much better than the Z. HOWEVER, there is no way it's worth double or triple the cost of the Z. If you can afford it without a ding on your bank acct, go for the porsche but the Z almost does what the porsche can do while costing a whole lot less.

I have driven both the Cayman S and Boxster S
several times and I will echo what has been said. The P cars have the"feel" that you can do anything especially the mid engine ones. The 911 always feels like it will come around in tight turns but have not driven the all wheel 4S and I have not spend a great amount of time in the newer 911. I was set to buy the Boxster S and then started looking up the amount of engine failures that Porsche has had and decided against it. The newly designed engines may do away with these issues but it remains to be seen. Porsche is great if the failure happens within warranty but if not, they are expensive to replace. There have been those who have replaced two engines then traded for the Z due to cost of a third and peace of mind. All say for the price the Z is the winner but for total driving confidence, all the newer P cars win. You will not see engines heating up or brakes fading on the P's however, for the price you should expect that. You might however, have a low milage engine start leaking at the IMS or RMS and seige on you....All cars have their issues..But for overall driving involvement, a Porsche is hard to beat even with their issues......

If you want to beef up the ride get the Eibach springs, and Stillen or Eibach sway bars.
The front alignment is non-adjustable in stock form. You will need replacement adjustable upper control arms. The rear has about 2 degrees of adjustment which should be enough with the Eibach springs. There are replacement adjustable rear-links available if it turns out they is not enough adjustment. The Z does hug the turns pretty well but it doesn't give as much feedback as the Porsche's do. Stiffening it up will help. |

My last Porsche was a 2002 996. Out of the box it felt uncomfortable at Mid-Ohio. I switched the suspension to the Euro X74 with turbo sways and it was a whole new car, fun on the track.
How does the Z compare? I drove the Z at Mid-Ohio with Eibach springs and Hotchkis bars. The car felt fairly neutral. It didn't do anything that made me nervous. I also let Dave Schardt from ForgeLine drive it. Dave has a lot of experience in Porsches on the track including Cup Cars. Dave thought it was a good package with a lot of potential. It would have been nice to have strung together more than 5 or 6 laps in a row. But there is a solution for this 'hot' topic.
