I also had someone kick a rock up and crack my windshield 1 week after getting my Z last year. It actually started out as just a chip, but I was driving from SC to PA and was still a few hours from getting there and had to keep driving, and by the time I arrived it had spread quite a bit. So, it went from possibly being able to be sealed to needing to be replaced.

Anyhow.. I have State Farm, and it's either them, or a South Carolina thing, I don't remember.. but it was totally covered by State Farm. I didn't have to pay a dime. I actually got it replaced up in PA by Safelite when I was still up there, but they didn't do a very good job (had a gap between the glass and the body in one spot, and broke a tab on one of my a-pillar covers when they were taking it off), so when I got back to SC from my trip, I called and complained and they actually came out and scrapped the windshield and put in a completely new one, and had ordered a replacement side piece from the local dealership and installed it as well.

So, all that to say, you may want to check with your insurance company. You may be surprised. And, I'm kind of on the fence about Safelite and not sure if I'd recommend them or not based on my experience. The guy up in PA did a crappy job, but they did take care of me and got everything fixed, at no cost to me. I guess that's good service.

Windshield damage is fully covered in florida, so i can't help you on price. The b pillar cover is hard to remove, let them do it. If they break it, its on them. I would insist that there be 2 men there to replace it. My 2 cents.

I had a windshield replaced in my 350z and it cost me $216. Most "national" brand places will charge you a crapload more than that.
Even more impressive is that the guy came to my work in August heat and put the window in.

i've had mine done at Nissan and was just under $300 Canadian. Not bad at all.

PapoZalsa 07-16-2011 07:58 PM

Some places will cover half of your insurance cost. Check around the different Glass Shops.

thought i would report back on my windshield issue.
talked with safelite auto glass today. they gave me a bid of 385.00
has anyone done business with them or had any problems..

Are 370 windshields thinner than an average windshield?

TreeSemdyZee 07-16-2011 09:06 PM

Haven't dealt with Safelite, mostly because they are drastically overpriced.
I'd recommend looking a non-national installer. They're usually quite a bit cheaper.

How do you not have a no deductible glass coverage? It's like $8 dollars a year

Rooster89 07-17-2011 09:06 AM

I had a chip sealed by safelite. Just by shooting the breeze with the guy and finding out he was a vetaran and talkin army, he ended just charging ten bucks. this was up around new york

+1. Totally worth it. $50 for every windshield replacement.

dirtrat 07-17-2011 08:27 PM

Not every insurance company offers this. AAA doesn't!
