Go with the Stillen bracket. I have it on my car. It's does the trick fine.
Here in L.A. you are just giving the cops a reason to pull you over without the front plate on. The Stillen bracket twists right off and on if you want to remove it.

Thank God Arkansas does not have a front plate, ruins look of the car. I had a MR2 Turbo I did not want to mount plate on while living in another state. I put my plate on a new bracket and put it behind seat with all the hardware to mount it. I figured if I got pulled over, I would reach behind the seat place it on the passenger seat and tell cop I just got a new bracket and have not put it on yet, see there it is on the seat. Good for at least one get out of ticket maybe. Never had to use it however in three years.

That makes no sense. If he sees an obvious violation (no plate) then he doesn't need an excuse. What it actually sounds like is that he made up the exhaust excuse to pull him over only to then discover the front plate missing and ensure that revenue collection commenced at that point. He was simply being profiled because of the type of car and got lucky with the lack of plate on his walk around of the car.

I'm picking up the Stillen license mount in a few days when I'm done with school work.
What really bothers me is the treatment I got from the cop that pulled me over and the two cops that I went to for a signature. I understand they see a young person with this car and probably think that I'm some spoiled brat that can have mommy and daddy pay off everything -_- The first cop I went to looked me up and down, said no and walked away and when I said I can't drill a hole into my car just shrugged and said oh well whatever. The other lady told me to get over it and do it so I dont get in trouble. Then proceeded to tell me that maybe next time I shouldn't get a car like this so I wouldn't get myself in trouble. Wth does that have to do with anything haha. I have no problem with the police but I've yet to meet more than 2 cops in irvine that were actually decent in the slightest. |

Just a note..
I recently bought the Stillen bracket, put it on and was immediately dissatisfied. The bracket makes the License plate stick out a good 2 inches from the bumper and from a side angle just looks plan stupid. Maybe if arm holding the bracket was shorter and more flush with the bumper I would like it but other then that.. I don't recommend it. |

I have had the car for almost two years now and one time I was pulled over for no front plate.. It was when I was omw to get my front bumper wet sanded and polished after it was just repainted... i swear i was literally pulling in the body shop when the MTA (railroad cop) policeman decided to pull me over for no front plate.. He than bitched about my tint, my exhaust which i said was stock and he believed me, and the main reason was my plate.. I explained that I was on my way to the shop that is right there and pointed at it, to get my bumper wet sanded/polished so I have not had the chance to install it yet.... He than says that is " A lame excuse at best" ... I swear... A few minutes later he comes back and hands me a ticket for front plate .... I had several other encounters with cops and none complained of my plate nor did I ever get any other tickets..
The worst part about this all was I had no idea he was an MTA cop, my girlfriend of a LONG time has a cousin I routinely see at holidays, family gatherings, who is also a MTA cop and a long time co-worker of the cop who wrote me. I Realized afterwords and told him Sean got a good laugh out of you writing me a ticket, and said he "wasn't surprised' Her cousin literally told me to tell him this b/c he is known as the #1 writer.. He than goes you are supposed to tell me you know him before hand, bla bla... W/E though, Its one ticket, I will pay it and hopefully it doesn't happen again. I'm gonna wait until I get two strikes before I bite the bullet, But IMO the tow hook bracket doesn't look right to me.. I will be going with the motorized one, and dremel out a section of the sports lip to make it fit...

i feel EXACTLY the same way as you do. I'm still debating on whether I should keep it on or not. Realistically it's probably best to keep it on especially where I live and our cops being notorious for their love of writing tickets and pulling over every young person with a sports car as often as they can (it's not unusual to see three cops pulling over one car in Irvine just because they feel the need to have their entire squad with them when they pull you over). But I really don't like how it looks and how it awkwardly sticks out SO much. It might not sound like a lot but when you see it it's totally different. And $75 dollars?! REALLY!? maybe I haven't been looking in the right areas but I never imagined it would be more than $30 for this kind of bracket if even that. I think if you REALLY REALLY REALLY have to then you should get this but I've counted at least 20 cars without front plates on my drive from school to home today which is a good 10 minute drive and I've never gotten any kind of trouble for it before this and even this time I didn't get pulled over for not having front plates on. I might just say eff it and take it off in a week |
