Sticking Throttle - HELP
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but here it goes.
I bought my 370 roadster new in march and I've hardly opened it up since. But recently I've noticed a possibly fatal and heavily irritating problem. When I let off of the throttle and clutch in (Or just let off the throttle at all) it has about a half second or a second of lag and the rpm's jump. The jump seems to be relative to how hard the throttle was down. I.e. 10% throttle and letting off gives me about a half second 100rpm jump, and 100% would give me about 900 to 1000rpm jump. At first I blamed my footwork. Based off of the sound the car was making I deduced that I wasn't letting off of the gas while clutched in, so I began disciplining my right foot by pulling my foot as far away from the gas and granny shifting. Same lag. Today I took it to my nissan dealership and explained the 'problem' in full and even recreated it for a technician. The man didn't really say much at all while in the car, but later agreed with me, that it was a sticky throttle. They've had my car all day now and about 10 minutes ago they called to tell me that the car had absolutely nothing wrong with it. They even drove it, they say. Am I doing something wrong? Is this normal? Anyone have similar experiences? What do I do? Is this doing damage to my clutch (smells like clutch)? Etc. I'll try and post a video to explain further when I get my car back. OH and other people who have driven my car get the same lag/ theres nothing wrong with my shifting in other people's cars/ and I can tell theres something wrong with it when someone else is driving it because of the sound. |

do you have standard or automatic? if you have standard, go near the shifter and hold the s mode button for 5 sec to turn it off (u can check for the s light on dash). try it again after. if problem goes away, i believe a little reading on the owners manual on the srm might be appropriate

I was concerned about this earlier on when I had the car, and it is most likely due to the fact that the 370z has a very heavy flywheel and the momentum keeps the RPMs rising for a split second after you take your foot off the gas to shift. Its pretty noticeable if you floor it to 5-6k then shift...it will jump 500-700 RPM. If you floor it and take it to redline though, it will not do it.
This is most likely the issue that you are having...

Get a lighter aftermarket flywheel
Haha in all seriousness, i've never experienced a time where the blip in rev's has gone past redline, so I dont think there is really anything to worry about. If you want to try to eliminate the flywheel as the culprit, do this... 1. Floor it up to 5k, foot off gas, and rapidly push in clutch. 2. Floor it up to 5k, foot off gas, and very gently push in clutch. If the RPMs blip high for #1, but dont do anything for #2, then its likely the flywheel.

Again, I'll be posting a video asap. I tried earlier solo but all I have is a phone and I came to the conclusion that I'm not well enough equipped to do it alone lol.

The Evo X does the same thing. It's primarily for emissions purposes - the intent is to leave the throttle open a bit and leave ignition timing advanced to burn off excess fuel after the engine has been burning a rich mixture (free-revving would cause this, same with after a WOT pull). Some theorize it has more to do with keeping the catalytic converter(s) healthy. I really have no idea... I don't spend much time thinking about improving emissions when I tune cars. lol
It's annoying, but I know it's normal on the Evo X, and probably the same on the Z.

I've always thought this was by design; that the revs do that after you depress the clutch for 2 reasons. It was like this in the 350 as well. It allows for smoother shifts. By holding or slightly increasing the revs before it begins to drop, it gives you more lee way to meet the revs when you pop in the next gear and left off the clutch. Secondly, have you ever driven a car, say in 1st gear and rev'd it up to like 5000 rmp's then let off the throttle? It jerks and shudders! And to avoid that, you would normally have to depress the clutch before letting off the throttle. But not in the Z, it is very smooth. Just let off the throttle and watch the revs go up and hold for a second to keep the car from jerking.

try a throttle pedal reset: During this sequence do not touch your accelerator pedal. Turn ignition ON (dont start the car) wait at least 2 seconds Turn ignition OFF wait at least 10 seconds Turn ignition ON (dont start the car) wait at least 2 seconds Turn ignition OFF wait at least 10 seconds. taken from here: DIY: Installing Touring pedals on your Base |
