OP, how fast were you going up the hill where what's on the other side of the apex was blind to you, and therefore left you no reaction time?

I lived in the Travis Oaks condos on Post Rd by Otlorf @ S. Congress for two years. I know the exact hill you speak of extremely well, and I understand exactly how you could be driving the speed limit and suddenly encounter an obstacle without having sufficient time to come to a full stop. Absolutely insane that someone would be pulling that kind of stunt in that location as well

In Texas it is an absolute necessity to have uninsured motorist coverage. If the person doesn't have a license, cops get called (or they're handing me serious cold hard cash).

Good luck with your situation.

That sucks man. Had some incidents with some dumbazz drivers myself. Had a lady in a pick up truck look both ways and see nothing before starting to turn right from the highway off ramp. Then after she started going, I lifted my foot off the brake to move up and to see for myself if there was traffic coming. Looked left and everything was clear, started to look right and saw her brake lights on after she slammed on her brakes. I rear ended her because I didn't have enough time to get to the brakes. No other cars on the road or any where near us so I have no clue why the hell she slammed on her brakes

Just yesterday, I was stopped at a red light and a guy was turning left from the road to my right. He had his head stuck out the window while turning too fast and nearly hit my car. I swear it was like he was trying to lick my car with his tongue out or something.

Default Defensive Driving -> ALWAYS

I practice defensive driving techniques that I learned from one of my first jobs that required me to drive small refueling trucks. Always have a way out and make sure you see that they see you. Most people flinch when honked at and I have seen one drive through the wall of an office building because of an unrelated honk somewhere else in the parking lot. She told the police that she thought her foot was on the brake!

Surprised to hear that since you live in NY. I used it for the first time when I went there last weekend. Before that I had only used it once just to hear what it sounded like.

^ You know... funny you guys mention this. It made me think. I don't think I have ever heard my horn. Period.

LOL. I need to go push it later... just to hear it.

I had experienced a pretty shocking occurance as well. I was making a left turn in an intersection and had merged in already, when a lady that had been stopped at the light with a red (she was sitting there for at least 20 seconds at a complete stop) just decided to floor it!!! like WTF? she litterally ran a red after she had already been stopped for 20 seconds.......I couldn't believe my eyes. I had to slam on the brakes so she wouldn't t-bone me! This just goes to show how you can never be too careful and trust no one.

According to a second poster you can come over this hill at the speed limit and be right on someone before you realize it. The OP also said he wasn't sure if he was going to stop in time so he made the decision to attempt to swerve around the person.

OP NOT to blame. /thread

Oh man, I remember riding in my grandpa's caddy. He'd honk at freakin every single car to make sure they saw him. It was completely ridiculous.

I honked my horn once just to hear it about a year ago.

I also used my horn last week trying to get the geese to move off the side of the road on the divided hiway. The horn is weak and the geese didn't care. They were Canadian after all.

It almost sounds like you didn't look right to see if it was a clear and assumed she wouldn't stopped.

Defensive driving courses would state to use the left-right-left tip of looking before doing a turn.

Actually I was turning my head to look right when my car hit the truck. I could not see the road clearly where I was so I took my foot off the brake to slowly move forward enough to see the road. I guess I should have waited for her to be completely out of the exit ramp and onto the road before moving my car.
