I said I "might" have been able to stop, if not I T-bone her. I'm the most conservative driver I know because I've been working wrecks for over 18 yrs now and I see the results everyday. I still have fun with the Z but not with other cars around and I wasn't trying to have fun last night dodging idiots.

Luckily all parts are salvageable but I'm not thrilled about having the rim polished and re-powder coated.

And don't forget the part about topping the hill and having the car in front of me.

Dude I would have just called the cops and have them take her away. The child is obviously not in the best of hands.

I have been driving for 40 years now with only 1 accident where some dumb a** started to make a left in front of me, saw she wouldn't be able to make it and stopped right in the middle of the intersection ! 2 cars totaled was the result and she was cited.

I have always subscribed to 2 philosophies:
1) drive like a fighter pilot. But defensively, not offensively of course. Keep your eyes moving at all times in a 360 degree direction scanning for threats and always position yourself in lanes where you have some room for maneuvering.
Pay attention to what you are doing when in charge of a 3000 lb missile doing 70 MPH. You don't need a nav. screen, phone, large Starbucks and other crap to distract you.
This also assumes that you are driving a vehicle that is "fighter plane" like with outstanding handling and brakes and not a 3 ton SUV that handles like a pig on stilts and will turn turtle if you have to make any sudden moves.
2) The Bell Curve theory. This means that 1/2 of the people that you come across at any given moment are dumber than average. That is pretty bad odds. Anticipate the worst and the unexpected. You will survive longer.

I don't understand why some people think I could have been at fault. This is my first accident behind the wheel in 32 years of driving. I said I might have been able to stop but in the milliseconds of time to make my decision I choose otherwise. I did call the cops and she got three tickets blah blah blah.

This is a tough crowd.

I'm surprised she didn't get arrested? Maybe they're a little more easy going in Texas but up here she would have been in handcuffs. I don't think you were at fault at all, you did what you could to avoid a collision, slamming on the brakes isn't always the best choice.

Only citizens get arrested. All others have all sorts of civil rights (besides.. can't upset the minority voters)

People are just stupid. The cars involved are incidental.

Yes, tough crowd. I don't really disagree though. When you see a car where it isn't supposed to be, and it's in your way, you slow down. Maybe you couldn't stop (these cars have pretty nice brakes...), but it still would have been the right thing.

Honestly, what part of that other car's story screamed out that they're predictable and intelligent? U-turn on a 4 lane busy street at night over the crest of a hill... My first thought is to keep my car as far away from theirs as possible, because they're attempting to win a Darwin Award.

I love politics! But that’s quite a jump you made to assume she doesn’t have a job or is on welfare. You don’t need a license to have a job. So she very well could not be on employment or welfare.

Tough crowd, no not really. I've read way worse than what I've read here, in other treads! Every one pretty much gets along, it's a good forum!

I based my judgment on your post, due to an over pass I use daily. It's "blind going up both sides", you can not see what is on the other side due to the angle of climb! "Go to fast, you'll meet new people", not a nice way too meet some one!

This car is my daily driver and i love it that way, but I now see why some people only take their toys out on weekends. I wouldnt even bother buying a car over 60g. I would be to afraid of taking it any where ever. Its pretty damn sad.
I'm very selective as to when and where I drive mine---good neighborhoods, decent roads, spacious parking facilities, etc. Otherwise, I just leave her in the garage and take the Altima. My Z's too beautiful to be marred in any way.
