Car wash issues?
Hey everybody, i wasn't quite sure where to post this since its not really about washing cars... I got my car washed today at an assembly line style car wash. (have not had time to wash it myself with the bust weekend) And i get about a mile away and stopped at a red light. It was on a slight up hill. When the light turned green i went to go but stalled... So i was like wtf... Started her up and started to go, but seemed to be sputtering. I gave it some more gas and it bogged right down. Luckily there was a gas station right there i pulled into. Turned the car off, then back on again, and i was having the same issue. turned it off and waited 15 minutes and started it up again and everything was fine...
Do you think i some how got water in the intake? Everything on the car is still stock, and i have not hear off any water issues with the stock intake... I also too my filters out and looked in the air box, and it seemed bone dry... Im kinda concerned about the whole deal. If it was water did it cause any damage to my engine? Thanks ahead of time for any input! Enjoy the 4th! |

Was the engine running when they put the car through, they usually are. Water must have gotten sucked in, but I don't know how thats possible with the stock intakes. Was there a CEL?
Also, do you know what the oil temp was at? It sounds a lot like limp mode, but I doubt it.

Did you get gas just before the wash? Bad gas maybe?
If it continues I would pull out the MAF and clean it, air dry the filters over night. Auto wash should not cause this though. |

If you don't have time to wash your car.. it's MUCH better to wait until you do.. those car washes are HORRIBLE for your paint. I know it's quick and easy and we all want our cars to look good all the time... just giving you a heads up though. It will mar the hell out of paint!

Didn't get gas, so thats not the issue. The oil temp was around 220. But it did feel very much like ''limp'' mode. It was like the vdc was kicking in even though i was not skidding... But also with a spudder... Even if water had gotten in some how, which there was no evidence of it, and its running fine now, i didn't damage my engine right?

From someone who lost a 350 due to massive water suckage, if you're engine is running fine now, you have no issues.
Did the car wash have those high-pressure dryers? I don't know about you, but after getting blown dry, I need to rest for awhile. |

I'm sure you can tell the difference between traction control kicking in but I thought I will mention that wet tires (coming out of the car wash) can initiate traction control but since it was not just one off, that can't be it. As others have said, if it is running fine now, nothing too serious.

Hand (wash) jobs are best. I wash my 370 at least once a week and it takes just about 30 minutes to wash and dry.
