Unhappy Z Totaled yesterday - Pics inside - Please advise! :(

Was driving home from work yesterday in heavy rain when my Z hit a pool of water and hydroplaned. The car ended up swerving off the road and hit a pole. The driver's side airbag went off (no passenger). No other cars were involved.

I was looking to get your opinions on whether or not the car is totaled. It is a 2009 Touring/Sport/Nav with basically every option installed. Mileage = 29k. There is ~$8,500 left on the loan from the bank.

Damage...

-Front completely smashed (obviously). You can see that the pole hit the dead center of my car. Don't know how far into my engine damage got.
-Both quarter panels smashed
-Driver's airbag deployed
-Front wheels are not in sync. One was pointed at a 45 degree angle while the other was straight.
-One front and one back tire are flat
-Not sure if the doors were affected, but the back of the car is unaffected (I think).

It's my preference that the car be totaled, simply because of the loss of value the Z would take if it was fixed. On the accident report, the police officer put down $9,000 as the estimated damage, but I think that is definitely too little. Just looking to get your opinion on whether you think it will be considered a total loss, and any advice you could give in dealing with this situation. FYI my car insurance is through Geico. Thanks!!

That's a pretty big hit -- way more than $9k in damage. I'd say it's totaled. Glad you're OK.

I'm an estimator at a bodyshop. Thats no doubt a total loss. Ouch! Way over $9,000 worth of damage. i wouldn't doubt that will be over $20k worth.

I wouldn't let them NOT total it. With that much frame and front end damage, it's done. No fixing.

And if they were to fix it, I don't think I'd want to drive it long term.
And I'm glad you're okay.

I don't think what he writes is going to have any impact on how geico proceeds. It will be what their evaluator determines the damage is, which will be well over $9k.

They always do, usually just for order of magnitude things. As long as he didn't write down $300, you're fine.

Correct, the estimator from the insurance and/or bodyshop will determine the amount of damage and if it is total loss.

The insurances company has a formula that is the amount of the damage against the current value of the car... that will determine if is total loss or not.

However I would not want my car fix after that type of damage.

Well it is a sport car and the insurance will be higher depending of many factor...the % of accident will definetely be one of those factors.

About 45ish. However, the road was really slick (It's been raining HARD the last 7-10 days here in Florida. It was really a shock that the car lost control, I wasn't driving crazy by any means. I really am
hoping they will total it. I read online that I may be able to buy the car back from Geico at a small price. I'm thinking that may be the thing to do as I could part out wheels, seats, etc. Adjuster is looking at it Wednesday post-teardown so we'll see.
