Things not to do to your Z

Everyone seems to have their own definition of what a riced out car is. If you ask any american gear head he will probably tell you its anyone who works on a japanese car. If you ask other people its a car with a bad body kit or a giant whale wing on their car. Others say its "show and no go".

I think it happens when someone doesnt have a theme with their car or an idea on what they want to do. Keeping the car simple and clean is personally the best way to go. As long as there isnt gull wing doors, a 35 foot wing on the car, hydrolics, and spinners it should be fine.

Opinions? And some suggestions on what people should NOT do to their Z?

I don't mind people modifying the looks of a car tastefully, and performance and handling related mods are great, assuming they actually work for some real purpose. I draw the line at mods that are intended to give some sort of "racing" look but impart no substantive benefit to the car and driver. So yeah, spinners are tasteless, and giant wings fall into the "bullsh*t performance mod" category, at least for street cars.

Personally, I'm hoping to keep the exterior of my car as stock as possible. My car will be a "sleeper", as much as any 370 can be :)

But that said, there's a lot of room for subjective interpretation on all of this, and I'm not gonna go trying to enforce my opinions on someone else.

Then again, if you're like these guys, I'm gonna laugh my *** off at you:

O...m...f....g....

The guy in the Z was horrible. Thats honestly the worst 350z i have ever seen.

Painting non Sport model brakes...

Educ8r 04-25-2009 10:05 AM

Call me crazy, but I say if you bought it do whatever you want to it. It's YOURS! The day someone pays for my car and insurance I will let them dictate what I should or should not do to it.

Bad assumption, seeing as I'm one of those "American gear heads", and I now own a 370 lol...

"Rice", is a mentality. You can rice out ANY car, no matter what brand or where its built. Period.

My no-no's on this car?

-Ridiculous body kits that cost $5000+ (or worse yet, cheap ones that look horrid...).
-Park bench wings
-SLAMMING THE CAR TO THE GROUND! This car needs, probably at MOST, a .5" drop. After that, I feel you're compromising the dynamics and ground clearance of the vehicle and you've now just become a show-only car.
-The "MUST HAVE CARBON FIBER EVERYTHING!" mentality. No, you don't, and no, it doesn't save a lot of weight lol.
-Excessively tinting the headlights. Not a fan, think its unsafe and somewhat tacky.

molamann 04-25-2009 11:00 AM

Don't forget euro lights

dad 04-25-2009 11:12 AM

Two tone paint job. Tinting the brake lights, I think that is unsafe and just asking to be re-ended!

DIGItonium 04-25-2009 01:58 PM

Have you guys seen my Spec-V emblem yet? I swear my car feels so much faster, and I can hang with the GT-R thanks to the Spec-V emblem. :rofl2:

Seriously, before I got my car I had plans to do some mods like change out the spoiler and stuff. The OEM spoiler, while hard to clean underneath, is growing on me so I'm keeping it. I may end up with something along the lines of Central20 sides and Mine's CF front lip (waiting for alternatives). I just hate FRP stuff tacked on, so I may end up keeping the stock side skirts and simply add on a simple CF lip to keep a "flat" profile underneath.

TS produced a really nice front diffuser with CF underbody panel. The rigidity would be nice, and it also provides an access panel for the oil filter.

Lighting wise, my modded headlights will be as "ricey" as it gets. I was thinking about getting the JDM clear tail lights, but I like my stock ones the way they are.

Overall, I reduced my wishlist and will end up saving a few grand. The Z looks good enough as it is, and (coming from a 350Z) it is such a pleasure to drive. What you see in my avatar is my 350Z with just a spoiler and side skirts, and people loved the cleanliness of my car.

Some comedy for sure but I agree with you Educ8r

o0javi0o 04-25-2009 08:30 PM

Its basically your own opinion.
So I totally agree with Mr. Educator.

355890 04-25-2009 09:28 PM

I like engine cover with vents. Wish I could find one.

I like the sleeper idea....do things hidden and under the hood. That's what makes an interesting car, not a car that has body kit pieces falling off after a couple years....ridiculus !!

Or better yet how about the guy who slams the car to the ground and then slowly shows visible signs of obvious bumps into every raised piece of concrete such as speed bump, curb, parking block.

The G35 Ricer video CANT be real. That'd be hillarious if that guy was seriously that dumb and didnt know his car...

Anatoray 04-25-2009 09:50 PM

Yeah, that G35 video has to be the guy just ******* with them.

tvfreakazoid 04-26-2009 06:11 AM

I agree with you, but OMG what is that old dude thinking? What is up with people in FL. :owned:

TRU370Z 04-26-2009 07:26 AM

Damn no one mentioned lambo doors, Z3 fenders, and neon lights under the car? Or are those not considered rice lol.

frost 04-26-2009 11:46 AM

^ z3 fenders ::cringe:: Got that one right.

molamann 04-26-2009 11:58 AM

Why spend hundreds on Z3 fender when you can just:

Were the guys in the first 2 videos driving an SRT4? With racing stripes?

DIGItonium 04-26-2009 01:56 PM

Between the basket-handle (with stripes) and the, "if it's loud, it must be fast" exhaust note . . . I'm guessing those guys were just envious of the guy in the fake supercharged Z.

Zyonara 01-23-2010 02:01 AM

Last I checked all our Z's were made in Japan, so technically we're all driving a "Riced Out" or "Rice Burner" car. The non-performance things that people put on their cars (park bench spoilers, CF everywhere, extra-wide body kits, landing kit LED's, etc...) are just they're way of expressing themselves and standing out, so more power to them! As long as it makes you happy and it's not offensive to other people who cares what you put on your car. Why be stock and drive the same ride like the next guy? Plus, it's fun to laugh at some of the ridiculous things people do to there cars.:rofl2:

Pushing_Tin 01-23-2010 02:30 AM

That's so funny!!! But on a more serious note, I've retrofitted my fuel system with di-lithium crystals.

I agree with everything.

I hate the patchwork carbon fiber look. I have seen some cars on here that have some parts CF, some parts OEM painted... they just put CF wherever they can get a CF part for it, and it looks horrible.

It was an SRT-4 Neon. I'm not a personal fan of them but they can be quite fast.

SophiaZ 01-23-2010 10:10 AM

I see nothing wrong with lambo doors. I can see the fart can exhaust tips, fender vents, huge wing, and 20" chrome tires are a nono..but than again..it's all up to the owner. Like most people, I bought the car for myself to drive and enjoy so therefore I don't give a crap what anyone thinks. If I ask for your opinion than it counts, but if not..... don't talk crap on other import owners! That's just wrong. And yea..I'm aparantly a "RICER" cause I'm getting my car painted 2-toned. Boo-hoo. Someone pass the tissues

I just want to say unless this is a horrible dealer epidemic, this car is currently sitting @ Cherry Hill Nissan in NJ. As of three weeks ago, it still hasn't sold. They are charging something like $500 for the "racing stripes."

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

They should be beaten for defiling a helpless Z.:shakes head:

chris410 01-23-2010 10:39 AM

Big wing and raspy exhaust is the easiest way to turn the 370 into a ricer. Also, graphics and stickers (I'm talking obnoxious here)...typical stuff really.

Horseface 01-23-2010 11:41 AM

Anything that detracts from the car and its design. A display of general aesthetic ignorance.

Body kits that ignore all the lines and design motifs of the car. Sometimes unpainted, or painted different colours.

Fake body kit vents and stick on port holes. I recently saw a Z3 whose owner had stuck buick port holes above the vents. Unbelievable.

Paint jobs or wraps that work against or obscure the shapes and lines of the car.

TRD stickers.

Carbon fiber glued over original parts.

Stickers to denote what upgrades you have. Who gives a s*it about what kind of brake pedals you've installed?

Misappropriated badges and emblems, often meant for other cars. Type R Toyotas. Porsche Turbo badges on a BMW.

Farty 4" exhaust tips on cars pushing out less than 130hp.

Rubberised steering wheel covers in random colours.

Blue LEDs on windshield washer jets.

Ornately shaped license plate frames - chains, blades, barbed wire.

Bits of random chrome trim accent.

General busyness and hodge podginess.

Platinum motor sports.

It's all subjective though, isn't it.

;)

The cars in the vid did look very over the top and i laughed at first but as the videos went on, i felt like the two guys making fun of these people sound sad and desperate. Sounded like chronic masturbaters.

At the end i was like whoa those two commenting are fags and the guy with the retarded car, more power to him, hes doing what he wants an what makes him happy.

Of course you cand do whatever you like to your car, but when you start lying about it repeatedly then you should be embarassed and made fun of.

We have all said stupid stupid things at one time or another, or more similar example is that you guys have worn clothes that others would consider extremely old/gay/tacky/try hard/gangster/emo etc.

Imagine if these two guys see you walking down the street in your clothes of choice (that you think are the best, make you look oh so good) pointed a camera right in your face, asked you questions about your clothes making fun of you, then posted up here for all to see...yeah would be gay as hell huh

- Ty

If I were lying to inflate my own ego or self-worth then yes, I absolutely, 100% deserve to be made fun of all across the internet.

If you really think about it their lying is what makes it so hilarious. If the guy had simply said, "of course it's not supercharged, I just did that to get some laughs," do you really think anybody would have cared? No. If you act like a douchebag you should be prepared to be called out.
