If the car is yours u should feel free to do whatever it is u want to do to it. If u like spinners, add spinners if it'll make u happy. Others might laugh at you, but if it's ur thing then do ur thing. Too many haters out there that try to put others down.
Suggestion though: The more OEM ur car looks, the cleaner and nicer it'll be. Don't just "mod" something on ur car because it's available. If ur going to "mod" something it's because u really want ur car to look that way and/or perform that way for you. |

A footprint gas pedal and chain link steering wheel. Joe Dirt inspiration
Seriously though i have an $800 beater truck i am gonna do that too. Why, cause it is a 91 toyota with 300k miles on it that i take trash to the dump in and i want to laugh at myself when i drive it once a week. Seriously i guess do what you want, but to me anything that noticably detracts from the factory looks of the car like extreme body kits that dont fit the lines, chrome anything, all show and no function parts added together even a bunch of little things.

I heard that the "Supercharged" 350z is actually used by police to arrest people who try and illegally street race. It was designed to look over the top to instigate races.
If that is true, I'm not sure... but it would answer ALOT of questions.

i think you can do whatever you want to your car but this is america and people have the right to force there opinion on you whether you wanted it or not. i think almost anything CAN be done but it matters how well it is done, a professional set of neons on a car you plan to show not only draws atention to it but also gains points during judging at most import class events. Rockin a cheap set of neons from advance slapped up with cable ties and driving through town with them on is F'n terrible. Our cars could stand to have the tails tinted a little bit, not terribly dark, but they are seriously f'n bright. tinted z tails are still twice as bright as 90's grand am tails.

There is a guy who comes through the bank I work at who we call "Crome Boy"
He pretty much called some catalog for Pontiac Grand Ams and said "what do you have in crome for a pontiac Grand Am? On second thought just send me one of everything" it looks soooo dumb. Maybe I will try and snap a picture next time. Its so terrible looking. |

My opinions on this are always wildly unpopular. I think that most of the aesthetic trends I've seen in the past few years have been absolutely horrible and exist not because they look good, but because someone felt the burning desire to be different (and then someone saw that and wanted to be "different" too, etc). Eventually this leads to a bunch of people with really poor taste deciding that some trend is hot and looks good. Here are some of my least favorites that I've seen done to this car:
- Painting your car flat/matte black. It's not "murdered out" now, it just looks like it's in primer. Congrats. - Black wheels. Look at a picture of your car. At a glance it looks like someone jacked your wheels, or you have all spare tires on. Wheels are made of metal, why not have them look that way? - "Landing strip" in the headlights. Just because it works on an Audi doesn't mean you should try and apply it to your car. This is like the new Altezza-style lights. - Any HID except the factory 4300K. That purple you see on high end cars is just a narrow band at the edge of the light. Now your car just had purple headlights. Groovy baby! - Overuse of carbon fiber, especially front lips and rear spoilers. Look at your car from the side. Do you see how the bottom of the car follows a nice line from the front to the back? When you put that CF front lip on there, it totally screws that up. CF works as an accent, not an entire piece of bodywork. - Adding extra vents all over the place, like vented front fenders and non-functional vents in the rear bumper. Because extra vents = extra good, right? I feel like this is the kind of stuff I used to doodle in class when I was 10. Hey, why stop there?!? Why not take my other awesome ideas like rockets, machine guns and missile launchers? The 350Z and 370Z have the problem in my mind of already looking about as good as they can look. They only need very subtle changed, like being lowered, possibly wheels, maybe a subtle lip, etc. Changing them drastically almost always makes them look worse. Unfortunately, if people didn't totally alter their cars, how would they be "unique"? |

Whoever said having a double din dash is rice must be smoking crack. I love my avec-z120bt. One of the best purchase for my car, all its function is beyond what the stock cd player of a nismo.

I hate to burst everybodies bubble but 98% of americans consider our cars rice, modified or stock. Especially in my case with a nismo. I dunno how many times I've heard comments like this yelled at me... 2 fast 2 furious, body kits are gay, or nice fart cans. Point is most people don't know **** about cars and don't consider my car any different than the civic that just drove by with a $69 pepboys muffler on it. We all have different definitions of rice and I have mine but wont mention them bc some guys here choose to do so and that makes em happy. However I just believe that if im gonna put something on my car its gonna enhance performance in some way, except for my red gtr stop button.

I don't care what someone else chooses to do to their own car, but on my personal 370Z...
#1. I'll never do carbon fiber sticky parts. I think it's cheap and tacky to buy thin CF with sticky tape and slap it on your OEM parts. It doesn't make them more rigid, or lighter weight. I'd love carbon b-pillars, but so far all I've seen is cheap "overlay". It ain't right. It's like fake Louis Vuitton or a fake Rolex. Yeah it looks almost like the real thing, but it's a joke to anyone who knows the difference. #2. Carbon fiber hatch/hood/etc. Weight savings are useless on a road car. Looks awful unless painted. When painted, it's not only useless, but fit/finish is never as good as stock. #3. Slamming the car. Waste of a good sports car. Well thought out and properly adjusted coilovers/sways are fine (useless on a road car, but whatever), but just a set of cheap springs to drop the car is better left for Civics and other junk. #4. Fairlady Z badges. Why? It's a 370Z. Keeping the factory badges is bad enough, they don't help the lines of the car at all. Removing them and paying money for new badges for a car you don't own? Ridiculous. It doesn't look good at all. Oh, yeah, JDM. Sorry, this is not J, this is A, and you have a 370Z. It's not cool. At all. Ever. #5. Aluminum shift knobs. I've done this before and I'll never do it again. Stupid, stupid, stupid move. Even with a nice sun shade and window tint, they get far too hot in the summer. I learned my lesson, and kept mine stock on this car. I don't see this as a "ricer" mod, just something that sounds like a good idea but is actually a dumb move. Again, I've done it myself. I wouldn't tear apart the OEM headlights to paint them/add LED lights and then glue them back together either, but I admit it often looks nice. I wouldn't spend the money for carbon fiber rad support/battery cover/etc under the hood, but it does look nice and at least they are actually new parts and not just sticky tape crap. |

By your name alone, Im assuming you are a former Ford convert. From that notion, your post doesnt surprise me in the least on your viewpoints. And unsurprisingly enough, I agree with all of them completely.
Well, maybe except for the shift knobs - I liked my old aluminum knob lol. Even though it got hot.

Screen name is just something I've used for over a decade. I did have a '99 SVT Contour, but that was a very long time ago. Last car was a BMW, which was fairly heavily modified, including an aluminum shift knob
