Second tank of gas 25.62 MPG
I filled up a few days ago and meant to take some pics... obviously because the car is premium, the cost is still higher, but I thought that was good for only the second tank considering I had run the A/C some, got on the car a little, but mostly cruised. Keep in mind the speed limit where I live is still 55 on the highway and I don't drive much over that.
I don't know how many miles the first tank got because the dealership filled it up and I don't know how much was put into the car or anything... it was driven a little ways before it got to me and I also don't know if the mileage was reset upon filling. Anyway... 450 miles on the tank exactly and the fill up was 17.5 gallons... +/- a little. Not bad for a car with only a little under 1000 miles and not broken in yet. |
55~65 you should be getting about 28~30
over 70 drops like hell, around 22~24 edit* after about 3000 miles that is |

Well I got ya beat so far. Filled my tank up yesterday and drove a little over 100miles, still have a completely full tank of gas according to the gauge.

The dots lie, mine will have 2 dots remaining and the warning light comes on... I fill up and see I only put in 15 gallons.

yah this is the same way on most cars though, even with needles. it take a while for the needle to move while full but once it passes the 1/2 mark it dips pretty quick....
|
Gas gauges and trip computers are skewed towards fooling the driver into thinking that fuel economy is better than it really is. That is why the top portion of the meter takes longer to drop...it's been programmed that way.

Just got back from a trip to North Carolina and I got 27.4 on one tank running 70-75 with AC most of the trip. Might attribute some of that to going downhill in the mountains though. :driving:

25mpg is damn good if it's mostly city driving.
|
i will get 26+ with hwy driving, however my DD is all city driving stop and go so I see around 18-20 on an avg.
|
I get about 20.5 mpg. Mix of city and highway. Couldn't say how many miles I get to the tank cause I only gas up 1/2 a tank. That extra 9.5 gallons is a lot of weight. Ever notice how much more fun the car is with about 2 dots left lol

Then again, I would imagine once I add the K&N's and post maf tubes along with the amsoil i'll get better mileage as well.. I always have in my other cars after the first oil change. |
i dunno how you guys are getting such great mileage, unless you're driving long distances on the highway. i'm consistently averaging ~16mpg

Anyone else find yourself trying to explain to people how many "dots" of fuel you have left? And anyone who doesn't know, we have 16 dots for full.

Respectable mpg in my opinion
I just returned from a trip from Des Moines to Columbus OH and back, a total of 1,331 miles and averaged 27.8 mpg with an average speed of 68 mph for the entire trip. Best mileage was 30.5 mpg and worst segment was 25.3 mpg (very strong head wind.) I typically drive about 5 mph over the limit and speed limits are 65 mph in IL and OH and 70 mph in IA and IN. This average includes some city driving in Columbus and several stretchs of road construction, especially in Indy. I've got about 5K miles on the car.

Fuel gauges in cars are a linear measuring system, but measuring something that is not linear. So no, they are never accurate.
The fuel gauge is just measuring the height of the fuel in the tank. The top of the tank is much wider and contains more fuel, so it goes down slower. The bottom of the tank is much smaller, so it drains quicker. http://i905.photobucket.com/albums/a...nk-172a002.jpg |
19mpg's solid is the best I can do. Lol. Its hard to granny a Z.

I think some of you must be driving up-hill and not noticing it. It's easy to do. I drove across a bridge one time and the read-out showed nearly 30mpg. Then I took it the other way and it sat on 22-23 mpg. Apparently, this 2 mile long bridge was NOT flat/level. It sure looked it, though! Easy to do. Average your mileage going both ways on the same stretch of highway for accurate measurement. |

Doesn't bother me, really. |

Why are u so happy when you drive speed limit and get 25mpg lolz. The 370z was built to drive over the speed limit lol

Those of us that get only around 19-20mpg's. I found that if you use cruise control as often as possible. You can squeeze an extra 2 or 3mpg's. But I don't have the patience to keep using the resume/accel button. Lol. I just like driving quick.:driving:
