51% of the gencoupe fleet sees a mechanic in the first year for repairs.
12% of the Z fleet sees a mechanic for repairs. 9% of the miata fleet sees the mechanic for repairs. 57% of mustangs fleet sees the mechanic for respairs. These are true deltas numbers. How am I biased? Do I own true delta? I'm just saying, if owners themselves are reporting these numbers. Who's biased? Someone in this thread did mention that owners were encouraged to give poor reliability ratings due to lack of an oil cooler. That clears up the vast contradiction between true delta and CR. Sorry that thorough research showed the Z is way more reliable than reported. And I'm sorry that you are offended by me calling the gen trannies trash. That's what really motivated your post. I will rephrase and use the word subpar. But I know that will change in 2013. The Gen is still a great car. But honestly the trannies are a fail to me performance and reliability wise. It seems the only good tranny in the stable is the ZF 6at in the 3.8. Little features like DRM, dual overdrives, multiple gear ratios and lack of automatic upshift at 6000rpm make the nissan at a little more interesting than the hyundai 6at. I know its only temporary and I know hyundai is extremely progressive. But right now. A spade is a spade brother. To some of my Z bredrin. I know there are things you hate about the Z. But inconveniences and mechanical reliability fall into different categories. And I'm sorry red zed for finding so few flaws in the Z. I will learn to hate it more just for you. The Z had 12 out of 100 repairs. Only beat by the miata which had 9 out of 100 repairs. They had a bonus score on the miata for over reliable industrial strength doors. Unfortunately, we had the regular door rating.
Oh well, don't feel so bad then, not every car can have these types of doors. |

I stopped reading CR after relying upon their stellar review when purchasing a new car (best buy, highly recommended or some similar drivel). When it was time to sell their recommendation had changed to lemon, biggest POS ever made, stay the f*** away.
Never, never again will I ever rely on them or give any weight to their opinions......

Found this on the CR website today. Now they say 370Z is the top "most reliable sporty car" based on whatever responses they got on the latest model

Not a check from Nissan, just making improvements from the first and second year model, truly taking customers concerns and internal research of the first two model years(based on what has gone wrong in the first two years of production) and making the right improvements.

I will refer to CR when I am buying alot of products, but not much when it comes to cars. Even when I was a making a practical (Honda CR-V) auto purchase for the wife. I looked at CR, but I also read up as much as i could on Car & Driver, Motor Trend, and the Edmunds website. I tried to read through as many of the forum threads on Edmunds on the CR-V and the competition (Rogue, Escape, etc..). Some things that people complained about, I could care less about. For the most part, it gave me things to look for when I showed up on the dealership lot.

I would agree in general with CR. my car has had lots of little bugs, paint sucks, interior squeaks, etc.
I still love the car but nissan could improve overall quality.

lol...This is old as shyt but i never caught this post. Can you believe I'm getting a fanboy psycho-analysis from the Vandergriff hyundai sales manager who i straight shytted on when he tried to sell me a gencoupe for msrp cuz its a high demand car? He was offended that i said, "the gencoupe wont be worth its msrp till it can lead in the sports car world. ITS NOT DOING THAT YET. He's mad about that opinion and nothing else" It couldnt win me over in the test drive. But i walked away with high respect for the car. And i have been one of nissan forums biggest gencoupe defenders. I just spewed facts that he dont like. Freakin ricer hyundai employees. Geez. |

I think Consumer Reports reporting is representative of the experience of the reader base of the magazine, which is heavily skewed to old farts. When an old fart buys a Z, he or she is going to report things like thin paint and rear hatch latches as "problem areas." Does this mean the cars are unreliable? Not as we define it, but probably as an old fart does. It's just something else to deal with, and the old fart would rather just drive the thing back & forth to WalMart and not have to deal with checking the oil level, looking at tire wear, or keeping up with maintenance schedules. Lexus is the heart of the drive-it-and-forget-it school, the ideal CR vehicle. By that standard, the Z sucks (at least to old farts).
