Default Damn you dealership!

I was driving along on the L.I.E. this morning, when I heard a loud POP!! I knew I ran over something, but didn't know what. All I heard was a loud ticking sound, so I pulled over at the next exit. TPMS didn't show a lost in tire pressure. I checked it out and found a 1/2 inch bolt in the rear tire. So I thought, s***! ....at least I have spare.

I proceed to take the spare out, jack etc... and unbolt the lugs..with only the wheel lock lug left. For some reason it wasn't "grabbing". I looked down and low and behold, the wheel lock had exploded leaving just the end piece still screwed in. There was no way for me to remove it. After about five minutes of explitive, I though....Well now what.....

I looked at the other wheels and another lock was completely gone.

I ended up driving 10 miles going 10mph to the dealer service dept and still waiting as I post. Seriously pissed they gave me the wrong locks. I just found the service bulletin today while doing a search.

I would have been seriously screwed if I had been on a long trip or in the middle of nowhere. So fellow members, please check your wheel locks and make sure it has the flat washer at the end. The ones without where designed for the 350z (the ones I got apparently). I would have ended up needing a tow if I wasn't so close.

I agree. Just because you've been "okay so far" doesn't mean you aren't going to have this problem. Go check your car!

Here's the original thread.
Broken wheel stud and lug nut.

3 hours and still waiting.... They can't get the left over piece from the lock off. Thankfully they will cover it under warranty.

Tell them you want a rental for the rest of the day assuming it's warrenty work. See no reason it shouldn't be.

They need to use the tool I used, worked like a charm on an impact gun. $20 at Pepboys. Wrap the piece with tape to prevent it scratching the wheel.

NO, you have to order them or maybe the stealership will give to you for free if you asked as part of the deal.

However, make sure they are the correct ones. There is a thread somewhere here about the correct lock nuts for the 370.

Correct part# is Part #999W2-JT000.

If they replace them? make sure they DON'T install the same type!!
I removed my broken ones a while back and just replaced them with lugs.

It's not the key, it's the locks themselves. They bottom out and create a stress point where they eventually crack right in half.

How about NO wheel lock key?

My car had been used by the original dealer at auto shows, so they had zooted it up with all the Nissan aftermarket parts, including the wheel locks. It wasn't until after I'd had it for awhile that my son noticed that it had wheel locks. Tearing the car apart....no removal socket, probably sitting in a saleman's desk drawer at the original dealership. Seems like it would be easy to just order a replacement, doesn't it? They matched my locks to their master key set, but apparently ordering the replacement is impossible. The service manager finally tried to talk me out of the locks altogether and replace the them with standard lug nuts. I told him I'd be happy to sell them to him for the $50 they tacked onto the sticker, he decided it would be cheaper for them to pay dealer cost for a whole new set. And thanks to this site, I was able to make sure they weren't the 350Z locks.

Hmmm.....
Once the Dealer determined which key you needed by using the Master Key Set, all they have to do is call McGard and order a replacement key for you.
