Would you have gotten a GTR?
Assuming both the Z and GTR are priced the same, would you get the GTR?
Personally, after hearing horror stories about GTR insurance/maintenance/repair costs and the fact that its a dime a dozen from where i come from, i would have chosen a Z anyway... However, am sure it would be fun to just drive the GTR for a week or two, just to experience Nissan's finest... |
GTR
Pros: Gtr comes boosted with 500hp easy to modify awd Cons: Gtr is a porker tons of electronic gizmos to fail on you in the future Z Pros: weights less when boosted it can run with a Gtr Imo looks better as well When u modify the Z properly it will run as well as a Gtr. It just won't get out of the hole as fast. |
i couldnt afford to fix things on the gtr, so no :(
|
Z looks better by far. I really am turned off by the rear of the GTR. Would be a great Track car if I had the money and the time.
|
I'd go with the GTR but end up feeling disappointed in the long run
|
The Z was what I wanted, not what I settled for, so no GTR here.
|
No Z (even boosted) can run with a GTR, aside from running behind it.
If they were both $35k, hell yes I'd have a GTR. 0-60 in 2.9s and 11s 1/4 mi. And if they were priced the same, repair costs would then even out as well. With the price differential, I'd take the Z as I did. If they were priced identically, there's no decision to be had...GTR. |
:iagree:
|
If I had to do it over again, I would have bought one instead. The amount of money ou put it a z to make it 500hp, wheels, tires, suspension, seats, monitoring system, body kit, ya I woulda for one
|
i like the appearance of the Z much more than the gtr. but the performance of the gtr is tough to pass up.. if i could put the gtr power in the body of a Z..... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
|
i think they'd just take my driver licences once i drove off the lot....
i like to drive like i stole it :driving: |

Now if your saying the other way and the Z was priced as high as a GTR, the Z's maintenence and repairs would be sky high as well in which case i'd be driving a corvette. |
I was close to ordering a GTR. My factory order for the 370 was questionable (being right at the cut-off for the 2009 model before they re-tooled for the convertable). There was about a 4 day stretch that I didn't know if I was going to get my order. I had plans to order a GTR if I couldn't get the 370.
But it worked out that I got the 370. And, I'm not disappointed. And, I did get to test drive a GTR. Fun! |
I love my Z...but for the same price range...you would get more bang for the buck goin with the GTR!!!! So I definitely would get a GTR
|
If the GTR wasn't an automatic I'd own one at full price. I just can't abide auto's, even inexpensive ones.

-Great on the track but boring on the street. The Z is both, can be fun on the track and on the street. Now I am sure the GT-R can be fun on the street, but not from what I have heard. |
This is such a great question! Honestly, before I looked in here, I'd never asked myself this question. It's an interesting dilemma.
On one hand, the GTR crushes the Z in performance. Plus it's AWD so I might be more comfortable driving it in the snow and wet. But it's huge and very expensive to maintain, and only available in automatic transmission (I'm a 3 pedal addict). On the other hand, the Z is cheaper to maintain, comes with MT, and is imo prettier. I think I'd still go with the GTR since my Z is a toy, not a DD, and I have a dog. But it's a very tough decision. |
i like the gtr i considered it but when i heard pricing on repairs i think they are crazy so im going z for the price of a gtr i can get a z and go crazy with it
|
A GTR is to a 370Z what a 370Z is to a Miata minus it's fabulous doors.
|
It would be nice if the Z was AWD. But then you just go adding weight.
|
my hypothesis was based on just sticker price of car...
stories of 5000km gearbox oil changes that cost $1000... gearboxes that break and cost upwards of 20k to repair are common stories. I suppose the engine is robust enough, but seems like the smarter-than-the-average-bear gearbox is the weaklink. used to love how the gtr looks when it first came out but now, i definitely think the Z is the prettier of the 2...sepcially since i own one.. heh Quote:

If the Gtr was the same price as a Z it wouldn't be a Gtr. If the Z had the same price of a Gtr it would have twin turbos, no oil temp issues, the engine would sound better and it would kick a Gtr's a$$ all day. Give me the Z!!!!!!! |

Definitely GT-R  |

I'd get the Z hands down. I don't need dealership bull$hit. I don't need expensive upkeep. I don't WANT OR NEED all wheel drive, drifting FTW. I don't WANT OR NEED a stupid a$$ automatic transmission on a super car. The only good thing out of the GTR is a quick 0-60 and panties dropping on the floor.

And please don't take me for an a$$hole because I'm not :) This is just my VERY firm opinion. I hate what Nissan has done with the GTR. Mainly because one of my top 3 favorite cars of all time is the R34 and I had VERY high expectations for the R35. |
GTR = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
which I don't have...... |
Definitely GT-R. I'd be lying to myself (like some here) if I said otherwise. ;-)
|
100% GTR by far, i've driven both... the Z's great, the GTR is better.
and it's not an "automatic" transmission. it's an automated manual, there's a difference. yes i like to row my own gears but this is the best of both worlds. you get the control of a manual with the easy to use daily driveablity of an auto while it shifts (up and down) faster than anyone or any auto ever could |

fair enough

Wish I could have one of each and a 911, but...
I actually considered (for a split second) trading the Z in for a GTR, but I just prefer my sports cars with clutches. Even if it's slower off the line, I love my Z and I love the connection to the car that a MT gives a driver. Also, I really like the small size of the Z. No back seat for me. You only need those in minivans and camaros! |
For me... Z hands down because GTR is automatic. The driving experience is just not the same no matter how fast the GTR's transmission can shift for me.
|
Dreamer thread is for dreamers!
|
I'm very up in the air b/c the 2012 GTR does feel more refined than the 2009.... my insurance quote came out to $9000 for the GTR =(

wow i pay like $96 a month |

I suppose if we want an exciting commute, the gtr should not be a first choice... Its supposed to be soooo easy to drive my grandma can drive it... For the same money life becomes exciting if i get to drive a lotus exige as a daily...
Anyway the z sorta strikes a balance.. |
I love my Z. But I can't wait to get a GTR :) both are great cars in their own way.
