if they were priced the same then i would probably go with the gtr but i would b pissed upon leaving because what nissan doesnt typically tell ppl is that if you buy one, u have to register it either for track or for street and if u register it for street and u take it over a certain speed(i dont remember the exact speed....but i know its less than the z's speed limiter kicks in) then the black box records it and it voids ur warranty through nissan so that would piss me off

Can anyone verify that? I've read about the GPS tracking you on track or roads on automatically changing setting but I always thought it was crap. Is the black box thing correct?

No, the only 'warranty' voiding Nissan looks at for the GT-R was in 09 with people messing with the launch control but even then that got blown out of proportion.
What Nissan did was in Japan create a link in with the GPS to remove the speed limiter when you are at a track. Nissan GT-R recognizes tracks via GPS, removes speed limiter — Autoblog

I have heard of some black box thing on the GT-R, what is that for?

Lemers 06-22-2011 05:50 PM

Most new cars have a black box even your Z. That doesn't mean Nissan reviews the data with each service.

fasr as i know, lots of wealthy people bought one just for "fun" but sold it off in a while, trading it in for a porsche or ferrari..

main reason - doesnt feel like driving a supercar.. even though specs are supercar-like...

that is true, but again it produces the numbers. it cost a lot less thats why its not overall as good.

people always the new mustang 5.0L is a great bang for your buck. it is producing numbers of a BMW m3. but when you drive both you will feel much better driving a M3. but thats why it cost 20k more. is it worth it ? idk.

I think the same comparison can be made for the 370Z and the Cayman S.

370 due to looks and the "fun" factor. Every time I see a GTR (usually flying past me) I wonder what that thing is going to transform into.

Just looked on yahoo autos. There is a black GTR 28k miles for $40k. Too bad it 1300 miles from me.

Synack 06-22-2011 07:55 PM

I hope our black box (if we have one) won't screw people over. I've been to high speeds in the Z and who knows how fast the guy before has been.

Odd that you have to preface your statement??

..if that was true it should be true EVERYWHERE NOT just Atlanta..

S

What? I'm confused

Lemers 06-22-2011 07:58 PM

There is a 2010 GTR on cars.com w/ 1771 miles for $25k. Does that sound kinda fraudulent to you?

b1adesofcha0s 06-22-2011 08:03 PM

Definitely. Maybe it has a blown trans that was never repaired, but that's assuming there is at least a bit of legitimacy with that posting.

Lemers 06-22-2011 08:05 PM

If the car exists I would absolutely take it to the Nissan dealer for a look over.
