My lease is up in 12 months.

What should I get?

Last three cars:

370z
G35
Jaguar X-type

I was thinking of going back to Infiniti, or maybe checking out BMW its gotta be in the same price range. I haven't gotten a raise in three years and the economy and all.................

red6spd 06-15-2011 03:41 PM

STI, G37 coupe or sedan, BMW 335. Just to name a few.

I was thinking hard about a 335. I have also heard the Lexus will be coming out with a 2 door IS next year. If Infiniti gave a good deal I wouldn't mind getting a G37. I had more fun in my G35 than I should have. I love my 370z, so I am not in a hurry to get rid of it.

FromG2Z 06-15-2011 03:50 PM

Did you lease your prior 3 cars you mentioned above? If you truly are worried about the economy and all, I would suggest NOT leasing and either purchasing your Z outright (yes you might lose $$$ on residual value) or some other car, new or used. If you did lease your G35 and Xtype, you would have already owned at least one of those cars with your payments.

However, if you're the type of person that tires of a car and needs to change vehicles every so often, then leasing might be the best option for you. It's just that if you're worried about the economy and you not getting a raise, you might want to reconsider your standards...

my 2 cents.

chuckd05 06-15-2011 06:04 PM

S5 - that will prob be my next car

shesha 06-15-2011 06:06 PM

"you might want to reconsider your standards..."

Can you clarify? Are you suggesting I get a Honda Accord?

Not at all. What I meant was, if you are concerned about the "economy" and you "not getting a raise", perhaps you should consider NOT leasing again when this lease is up. That was my point with "standards". In other words, keep your Z and buy it outright. At least then your payments will end in a few years.... as opposed to repeating the cycle over and over again by renewing yet another lease. But if those concerns you originally brought up, don't concern you, then lease away! :) I personally would not lease as that would be like continually renting an apartment as opposed to buying a house, but hey that's just me. Some folks are alright with renting, or they buy new houses every 3 years.... good for them.

PapoZalsa 06-15-2011 08:22 PM

I would never ever lease a car, that is free money for the dealer even that no car is an investment.

sonic370 06-15-2011 08:50 PM

not to hijack the subject. but the g37 was brought and a question or two...

is the g37 more or less just a 370 with a back seat and a better ride...
is the build and quailty that much beter than a 370...

there is not a infinti dealership in my home town. in fact you to drive 75 miles
to get one serviced.

how many would give up your 370 for a g37

:gtfo2: I would not give up my Z for a G. :gtfo2:

gr8-wrx 06-15-2011 09:17 PM

I wouldn't give up my Z for a G. The Z is our 3rd car in a two driver household. Gotta have one that is impractical! :)

chuckd05 06-15-2011 09:23 PM

After a typical 5 year loan, the 370z should be worth about 15,000 which is pretty good... but you will pay the full 32kish for the car...

at the end of my lease of 39 months I would of paid 16,820 .... is the Z going to be worth 16 grand than ? yes and probably a little more...

But with my habbits of never keeping a car for more than 3 years, if i finainced the same Z I would maybe come up a few thousand if i chose to get rid of it after 3 years... but my payments during that time would of been higher... if you sell your cars frequently and you are buying a nissan that doesnt hold is value all that great, I would rather lease... just my opinion..

and if i decide to buy it out ( which I will probably do ) my buyout is 16,900 after paying 380/39 months 2k down . So if i buy it out, I end up paying just under 34k for the car that I could of got for 30, but I could easily get out of it after 3 years... This may be confusing but I am not one of the people who are very anti-lease, its really not THAT bad of a deal... also many companies lease you vehicles so this may be the case here , who knows. But I do understand I will be paying a few more dollars than I could of if I finainced it.

So because of that.... I do however somewhat regret leasing the 370z because no car has made me satisfied like this one has, and I WANT to keep it.. most other cars I've had i grew tired and bored of after 2 years and typically kept every car for under 3 years.. I am 28 and I have owned 6 "real" cars since I have been 21 years old... Integra, audi a4, s2000, s2000 #2 ( was rear ended in a bad accident in first one only afer owning it 4 months, totaled it out so got another ) , G35 Coupe, now the 370..

All of those were finainced and other than the integra most of them I owed just about what I got for them when I sold/traded them in... Many would argue I shouldnt even of purchased them to start with as I rarely put more than 10k down, but its my hobby to enjoy my cars and I treat myself and family well when it comes to automobiles...

but anyway... look at a5 if you want luxory and done care about drop in speed , or s5 if you want speed/looks/luxory... but the price is higher than the Z by a good amount... I would imagine a lease of a s5 would be close to 750-800

The APR has to do a lot with your total payment on your loan. I have refinanced mine from a 6.5% APR 60 mths to my current 3.25% APR for 40 mths. Refinancing my car to a lower APR and cutting mths out has saved me a lot of money. ;)

chuckd05 06-15-2011 09:39 PM

very true

mikeSS 06-15-2011 10:17 PM

a 335i would be pretty cool. they drive great. also it would be fun to change to a turbocharged car

OtaconZ 06-16-2011 02:50 AM

335i or better yet the 335is are both worth checking out for sure. S4 would also be a good option (wouldn't consider the S5 until it gets the Supercharged V6 from the S4).

shesha 06-16-2011 04:22 AM

What kind of lease payments would I be looking at for a 335i ? I currently leased my z for $500 per month but I got it sighing the first three months of the car being released. I would get a z again but fully loaded non of this cloth base crap I have now.

Thank you for all your opinions and help.

i just leased a 2011 328i, stick price was like 45k. around 500 a month for 3 years. so it cant be that much more for a 335i

Chuck.... curious, if you do decide to turn in your car back, after the lease is over, what happens to your mods that you have on there? Do you have to remove all of them and return to stock form? How about "permanent" mods, like your blacked out fangs?

Econ 06-16-2011 08:08 AM

get an Aventador. I almost got one instead of my Z, but they wouldnt take a 10k down payment

I'd return to stock. I have a buddy with a body shop with a lift that i could use. I'd find someone who want my final drive and swap pumpkins, someone who wanted headlights and swap , and the rest are all bolt ons. Annoying for sure but not the end of the world.

The fangs I would ask about and if they wanted it stock I'd just resrpay it. Buddy owning body shop helps.

Yikes! 6.5% for 60mo! How long ago was this? It is good you chose to refinance. Apparently as long as you have decent credit, getting ~3% is cake from credit unions.

Back in 2009 that was the lowest I could find with my almost excellent credit rating in this area.

I also didn't want a big payment so the months financed played a big part on the APR at the time.

Kind of follow your same habits. I think it works out to I’ve had 16 cars in the last 16 years. With my most recent 370Z, I did something I’ve never done. I went back to a car I already had. Although that was a 350Z (08).

What about the crazy idea of getting another Z and putting the mods back on it?

As for the leasing discussion, most refuse to take depreciation into consideration when this discussion goes on. They always say it doesn’t matter because I’m not going to sell the car. Until of course eventually you sell the car and the ignoring of the depreciation becomes a reality. But the other things that people ignore are maintenance and warrantee when you are in a lease. Typically you are covered during your term for the large hits that a warrantee takes care of. And we all know maintenance costs go up once that period ends.

When it comes to figuring our total cost of ownership I really just throw that all out the window. Ultimately I buy cars based on if I think the price is worth the vehicle to me and drive them for as long as it makes sense.
