Got to love forums and all the senseless bickering. For me, and me alone, it boils down to these things: First, I find it to be nothing more than an expensive toy that adds little or nothing other than convenience and fancy looks. For less money I can have all the same features, whether after market, a smart phone, an ipod/ipad, a portable DVD player, a portable navigation unit, or other things. So if you have the money and want convenience and better looks, by all means, buy it. I'll spend my money else where, because I'm not that well off. No worries. Second, I spend 97% of my time in the same town that I've lived in for years. There is zero need for me to have a navigation device at home. For trips with my wife, since we also have an SUV, we most likely won't be taking this car. On long trips to strange cities where navigation would be cool to have, we would fly anyway, so what good does it do me sitting in the car at home? None. Besides, again, a smart phone is a better thing when traveling to strange places because it can do so much more. Third, I'm not directionally challenged. Some people I know can't find their arses in broad daylight. Both my wife and I are not one of those people. We have gone on many trips to strange cities over the years and never had an problems. Forth, I already own a portable DVD player, so no need for that. Not that I would ever use it in my 2 seater sports car anyway. We've never used it in our Solstice for sure. Fifth, I already have a 160 ipod which is mostly full, so that music box thing is a waste for me. Bottom line, for ME, it's a total waste of money. A total waste, like throwing it out the window. For you, it may be the best thing you ever paid for; something no stranger can help you with. The decision is yours based on your money reserves, your lifestyle, your traveling habits, your ability to "self find" your way around, and how important it is to look cool inside. Good hunting. |

Im not cheap, I have had my Garmin Navi for 3 years now and it has not failed me yet. It was only 200.00 and it still works. I have it on my left side windshield. I dont really care for sound of the music or more tech in the car. I enjoy driving it the most without playing around with the buttons. And plus I have the Nismo so it doesnt really come with tech stuff.

If NAVS suction cupped to your windshield with wires running all over your interior or an aftermarket screen stuck down by the shifter is your thing go aftermarket. If a screen sunk into the dash (to prevent glare) with steering wheel controls and system monitoring capabilities then get the OEM

If you think about it, nothing is ever too expensive. It all depends on how much you value the features you get. If you value them enough, you'll pay any price.

Haha man its funny how a seemingly harmless question has turned into this. Its good stuff though! I had gone to the dealership again today and test drove a Nav one and I think I'm sold on that. I previously have an aftermarket system in my G35 and even though it was a good system, It was a pain in the *** to install and i told myself i aint putting myself into that again. So I placed a down on a 11' MB touring sports Nav package. Thanks for all the great input from everyone which made it much easier for me to choose =)
