How much was your DMV Renewal cost?

I just paid $508 to renew the registration on my 370z. Ouch!

Under 80 bucks a year.

m4a1mustang 06-14-2011 09:26 AM

In VA registration with my custom plates ran me around $150 for 2 years. But I pay personal property tax on the car that starts at about $1,000 the first year and then drops ever so slightly in the following years. I will likely pay around $750-850 this year in PPT.

TongMan 06-14-2011 09:29 AM

So why did I pay so much to renew my registration? Fill me in on the loop holes.

theDreamer 06-14-2011 09:30 AM

Texas = cheap

c41006 06-14-2011 09:31 AM

I paid $370

It varies from state to state.

TongMan 06-14-2011 09:32 AM

Does my age have anything to do with it? I also have a clean driving record. No accidents, tickets, etc. What's up with DMV?

Nope, it is based on the car and state only.
Cali is a huge pain for low MPG cars and sports car.

m4a1mustang 06-14-2011 09:34 AM

Read your DMV bill. It should break down the fees.

TongMan 06-14-2011 09:41 AM

I never received a bill from DMV. I paid for the fee online at their website. Where can I get the break down fees?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.

need some input from local Norcal owners.

tomnavone 06-14-2011 10:03 AM

$432 here. Bay area. On may 19 the tax rose from .65 to 1.15 based on price of car in ca. Increased tax goes away in 2013

thats about right. my 2010 purchased new cost me over 500 for registration. the registration fees vary by state. for california at least, the governator raised our registration something like 20% before he left office in an attempt to cut the budget deficit.

my Z cost 500+, and my 2006 corolla cost me something like ~250. its ridiculous! i have friends who register their cars in other states to avoid paying the steep costs in california. (their cars were purchased out of state, and their parents still live out of state)

FromG2Z 06-14-2011 10:32 AM

Tongman, that's normal.... it varies state to state. Want to hear something retarded? Cali I can see justification for that cost... but IOWA? Here in Iowa, the damn yearly registration is almost as much as Cali's.... I think ours was in the 400's if I remember correctly. Don't worry, I bitch about it every year but get no where... lol.

VCuomo 06-14-2011 10:40 AM

Did you notice that $53 of the $508 was penalties (late registration, I'd assume)?

zcar_dad 06-14-2011 10:42 AM

Missouri - $88 for two years which includes my retired military plates (NO CHARGE)

FromG2Z 06-14-2011 10:59 AM

^ wow... for being border states, I wish I had your rates man :(

TX_370 06-14-2011 10:59 AM

$120

Mt Tam I am 06-14-2011 11:00 AM

$438 here in California. They sent the renewal 4 months early, presumably for the broke state to get a little extra income.

The renewal fee falls off quickly. In a few years it will be under half of what it is now.

onzedge 06-14-2011 11:03 AM

Yeah, I got mine VERY early. It was not due until 4-20-11 and I got it in late January. Mine was $492.00.

You are correct. Unfortunate for me, I bought a house in march and when I changed my address with DMV back in march to my new address, i still had to change my vehicle registration address too, which I failed to do. One would assume that changing their address would apply to their vehicles too, but nope. So I never received the renewal bill. I just realized that I need to renew my registration this month on the 8th. Paid today. But the new sticker is being shipped to my previous address. Now im currently sitting in a long *** line at the dmv. I hate DMV.

Z_ealot 06-14-2011 11:27 AM

alot of the fees vary by county too, for example i was only charged an additional $20 for a smog abatement fee while my actual license renewal fee was about $212 and thats registering in Riverside county here in socal.

TongMan 06-14-2011 12:13 PM

Just got back from the DMV. My asian persuation got the $53 late fee waived. Still sucks though. The most ever I've spend on a sticker. I hope it adds 100whp like Type-R stickers do.

jaedub 06-14-2011 01:53 PM

I paid more for my prelude back when I lived in LA over a decade ago. Things were much worse before CA revised their fees. You'd be paying more like $1000 back then (no joke)

Thats Cali for you and I have four vehicles!!!:ugh2:

flashburn 06-14-2011 04:37 PM

$58 in Florida, bitches!

fullmonty 06-14-2011 07:00 PM

Should cost me between $40-$50 here in NJ. I think my old truck cost about $90

Rone 06-14-2011 07:12 PM

Eww... That sucks. Sure glad I'm in Texas.

2004YZFR1 06-14-2011 07:19 PM

I paid just under 500.00 here in Vegas. This is such a big rip off. Why do you have to pay more to drive a nice new car than a old beat up one? Both cars are able to drive on the same roads. Then my wifes new Altima was due the next month, almost 500.00 for that one too!

kdo2milger 06-14-2011 07:55 PM

21.50!

TN ftw!

sonic370 06-14-2011 08:00 PM

79.00 here in texas.
depends on the state. i once lived in oklahoma and they go by the cost of the
car.higher the car the higher the tags. guess they figure if you can afford to
buy a 40,000 car what's another 500.00 for tags. which is a rip off..

Steve. Was the 1000 After the tax relief or you dont qualify?

007MI6 06-14-2011 09:03 PM

And yet another reason I LOVE Texas! I can't imagine paying that much. I'll pay about $69/year for registration and $40/year for my personalized plates. (Grandfathered in on my vanity plates FTW!)

KillerBee370 06-14-2011 11:40 PM

With my vanity plate and the 2 tix that I kinda just ignored  along with all the other BS fees Califvckyou charges...

$1,018.
