Buying used Z , should I avoid the 2009model.?

Is there a lot of issues or any issues
I should know about that the 2009 370z have compared to the newer 2010 doesn't have???

What should I look for when buying a used 2009 z?

tjlazer 06-13-2011 01:11 PM

No issues at all. The only thing I can think of is the 2009's don't have a factory installed cabin air filter installed. But you can add one yourself. LOL

I think they also have heated outside rearview mirrors...or that is the 2011...

BTW, No problems so far with my 2009.

theDreamer 06-13-2011 01:14 PM

2010 got heated side mirrors.

TreeSemdyZee 06-13-2011 01:53 PM

I want heated mirrors dangit.

Cmike2780 06-13-2011 01:56 PM

Not a whole lot has changed, even compared to the upcoming 2012's, so any model year you can get a deal on is fine. As some have stated, the only "update" worth mentioning is the heated mirror. Also, a used 40th is worth looking into if you're in the market.

My mirrors bring all the reflections to the yard,
and I'm like, they're hotter than yours.

mine is a slightly used (7,000) 09' and have had a few issues with it. Injectors went bad and now the tranny is acting funny. But I wouldn't narrow it down to the year...it could happen to ANY car.

Econ 06-13-2011 02:35 PM

all the same....

USMCASA 06-13-2011 03:29 PM

09 bought brand new, i currently have 66.5k miles on it with no issues

Econ 06-13-2011 03:44 PM

thats an envious amount of miles you got there

wilsonp 06-13-2011 04:58 PM

2009 and early (pre April?) 2010 cars could have the oil consumption issue, but most don't (mine doesn't even heat the oil!).

It is possible the ECU doesn't make the high-pitched whine that a few 2009 made. It is slightly possible the interior noise is slightly reduced in late 2009 models.

I wouldn't worry about it. I got an extended warranty with mine, verified the previous owner had stretched an oil change, and was fine.

happytheman 06-13-2011 05:24 PM

I've got a slightly used (12.5k miles) '09 and I've had no issues whatsoever. Haven't heard of any either (aside from the oil temp issue, but that's prevalent across the board).

ZOLE 06-13-2011 05:33 PM

Have an '09 as well. No issues that any other years aren't having.

mikeSS 06-13-2011 05:37 PM

what are used 2009 370z going for these days ?

TypeOne 06-13-2011 05:38 PM

My 09 was and is great... esp for the price.

:-)

UNKNOWN_370 06-13-2011 07:56 PM

Don't worry bout the year. Get the lowest mileage for the lowest price is what you want, also carfax report.

jaxxx 06-13-2011 09:28 PM

Thanks much:).

23-29k

KillerBee370 06-13-2011 10:41 PM

17k + miles and not one issue other than the air cond needing a recharge.

bacalhau16 06-14-2011 02:16 AM

bought my 09 brand new. Havent had an issue with it yet. Been almost a year. Only 7500 miles, but I drive my car pretty hard. Its already been to the dragstrip as well.

DaveyG 06-14-2011 07:16 AM

As someone who is looking also, I've been on this website for a while researching all the time and I won't buy an 09. There does seem to be more problems with this year. But there usually is with first year models.

Care to elaborate? What issues have you found that are more prevalent in 09's and not in 10's?

I give you an F for talking out your arse and making crap up.........

zcar_dad 06-14-2011 10:47 AM

My 09 Nismo goes over 2 this week with just 9,000 miles and no problems.

Econ 06-14-2011 10:52 AM

yea 09 with 5400 miles here no major issues

FromG2Z 06-14-2011 10:57 AM

That's what I thought so too.... I don't recall ever reading/hearing that 09's have more issues than 10's. I just wanted to make sure he justified his statement. I don't want other Z and potential Z owners getting scared of 09's....

Mt Tam I am 06-14-2011 11:08 AM

I have the 2009 that had the oil consumption problem resulting in a new short block. Since then nothing has gone wrong. I'd not be diswayed buying another.

No more "issues" in the '09 than the '10 model. Just be careful and have it checked out by a knowledgable tech.

Econ 06-14-2011 12:29 PM

you could also ask a nearby 370 owner to tag along with you (buy him beer or lunch or something), and hive him look at it.

Personally, had i known then what i know now, i wouldve have checkd for so many more things, such as ECU cpu whine, hatch taking 2 tries to open, faulty lug nuts, just stupid things that someone who has had the car for a little while might notice

bacalhau16 06-14-2011 01:59 PM

My hatch does take 2 times to open sometimes, but so did all my 350z's, so I just deal with it.

Econ 06-14-2011 02:02 PM

yea, like i said its not a big deal, however if you are paying 30k, you might as well get everything fixed before you buy.

its a 20 min fix for the dealers.

fjpthree 06-14-2011 06:22 PM

Car Max: 09 Touring with Sport Package and Nav. $31,988. 5400 miles on the odo.

:bowrofl::icon17::roflpuke2:

Now I have that song in my head.

Seriously, Consumer Report did give the 09 a "Not Recommended" rating. If you look closely at the ratings, it has to do with the oil temp issue some have had, body integrity (like the hatch issue), paint (prone to chipping), etc. However, people who respond to the CR survey generally have an extreme view (either very positive or very negative), so it probably does not represent the average owner.

I did my research last year before buying an 09 (I relied a lot on this forum), and decided that as long as I found one with plenty of warranty left, I could buy with confidence. Other than the hatch issue, and a very rare cylinder misfire code (twice on damp days), I've had not problems.

There is a TSB for that, hatch spring should be replaced under warranty, no big deal.

RiCharlie 06-15-2011 11:13 AM

I have a 2009 and its great but I do with I had waited for the 2012 model which is rumored to have the option of a Klingon invisibility cloak. Its a $1500 add on but its great for avoiding police detection when cruising at high speeds.
