370z vs Range Rover (pics)

So my girlfriend drives the kids to school this morning, comes back into the bedroom and says "So I uhmmm hit your car in the driveway"

Now knowing she drives a huge Range Rover, I did my best to stay cool, and first asked her if she was ok, even tho I knew she had to be fine. (Major brownie points for the future for asking about her before the car)

She told me she was in a rush and didn't see the Z parked right behind her, and in her partial defense, about a week ago her backup warning signal stopped working and is due for servicing next week. (Range Rovers are one of the most overpriced, least reliable POS vehicles on the road, this is our 2nd new RR and I could make a list 3 pages long of all the problems)

Anyhow I walked out to the driveway expecting to see the front end ruined, and damn if the front plate didn't save most of the damage.

Now my girlfriend is amazing, and already told me she was getting me the Carbon Signal Raptor Front Bumper for my Birthday and has already paid for the deposit weeks ago.

I'm not that upset, just a little bummed out that for the next 2 months of summer my front bumper will look scratched up badly until the new bumper arrives. I am pretty relieved, because I think this is about as good of an outcome as can happen when a Range Rover backs up hard into a Z.

I'm sorry. That sucks :(

However, since she drives a Land Rover, I presume she can cover your repair bill no sweat. In fact, I just glanced up and saw that she did, and it's full of win! Well played!

Flatten out the plate and no one will notice!

Yup, I think this is the best approach. Should I even bother having a body guy try and touch-up the scratches, or just screw it since a new bumper is on the way?

Yup, it's pretty hard to be angry about a damaged front bumper when a new one is already on the way, (8 weeks) and she bought it for a birthday gift for me.

It was hilarious, I showed her and the kids a pic of the bumper months ago, and her son kept saying "Mommy you should get that bumper for Adam's(me) birthday, it's awesome"

Her son is only 12 but loves cars, and did this daily without me telling him to, so after a month of if she comes up and says "Apparently the kids feel strongly about you getting that bumper for your birthday, so it's yours" :bowrofl:

Sometimes in life, you meet super awesome women, on those rare occasions it's best to keep them in your life..:icon17:

travnflorida 06-13-2011 09:25 AM

well now i dont feel so bad about mine :D sirry bro that sux

ChrisSlicks 06-13-2011 09:29 AM

If you have a body guy you are friendly with, just bring it in and ask him to hit it with the buffer, about 80% of the more shallow scuffs will buff out and make it look acceptable until you get the new bumper in. He probably wont even charge you if you give him the bumper install job.

Z-less 06-13-2011 09:39 AM

Sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel better my girlfriend took my EP3 after I was passed out from drinking and wrecked it. She didnt even make it past 3 houses and hit a damn pole. She asked if she could go to the store and I said yes but didnt even realize it cause I was gone...:shakes head:

Masa 06-13-2011 09:59 AM

Well you know the saying... "women driver no survivors". :rofl2:

In all seriousness, sucks that it happened but in the end it is a non issue with a new one on the way.

Holy crap, in that instance I would have been pretty pissed off.

She hit a pole? Was she drinking also? :ugh2:

DjSquall 06-13-2011 12:45 PM

Dude I'm sorry to hear about the Z, but you're one lucky guy. You still coming to the meet?

EDIT: P.S. Adam, that wasn't the pole the dudes gf was aiming for :D

TypeOne 06-13-2011 05:43 PM

Gah! this happened to me a few years ago... I just got my car out of the paint shop and my boss's wife backed into it... except she destroyed the bumper and broke the headlight.

It wasn't that big of a deal but I had the entire car color changed and it too about 8 weeks for them to finish it. ugh!

SkyZ 06-13-2011 07:40 PM

in for pics of the new bumper

No doubt!! They look good and ride good and that is about it. Biggest electrical nightmare ever built. The last Range Rover I had was horrible. Once my girl was using the vanity mirror and as soon as it came on it went back off and a message came across the dashboard about something with the transmission. I checked the fuse and had to replace it. Problem solved, but why in the F*#K would a car manufacturer of such status (or any manufacturer) use the same f'ing fuse for the transmission as the vanity mirror lights?:icon14: Anyways this being said I was called by Land Rover of Greenville for some parking lot repairs about a year ago. I went and met with the owner to see what he needed and eventually got started talking bout the different models they have now and so on and on. After bs'ing for a while he let me drive a new one around the block and while doing this he actually told me that Land Rover makes 20% of their profit when they sell an automobile and 80% of the PROFIT off the SERVICE!!! Yes this came straight from the owners mouth.

trainsales 06-13-2011 08:37 PM

I always used to tell my wife not to park in the driveway even if it's not behind my car. She did anyway and I smushed into the side of her car, while backing up my Land Cruiser at night. Didn't even know her car was there. Good thing for her a 370 was not involved.

trainsales 06-13-2011 08:41 PM

Before I bought a Land Cruiser, I test drove a Range Rover. Nice, but when I mentioned to the dealer that the car had a bad repair reputation, he told me that if I didn't like the idea of occasional repairs, then a Rover was not the right car for me. So I took his advice.

I can't seem to find any pics of their finished product. I'm assuming you've seen one somewhere if you've already got one on order??

I'll do you guys better, pics of the bumper, and pics of the GF.

I already posted this pic last year after she did a bikini photo shoot in the NSFW Wives / GF thread, but in case you missed it, there can never be too many pics of member GF's in bikinis...

KillerBee370 06-13-2011 10:47 PM

Dude.. you gotta get rid of the dic* swinger mobile aka Range Rover. Those things are such POS's.

Anyway I know how you feel. Been there and done that in my own driveway on occassion. But you've got a new piece coming!

Beautiful girlfriend Jjaden. She looks as if she could be a figurative model/fitness model. I know you are big into fitness, so I assume she is too?

Good eye, she competed for a year and won her IFBB Figure pro card in 2009, and then retired right away from competition

All the dieting and 2x daily to the gym was a pain in the butt and starting to be a strain on the family.

Everything in moderation, so we train together 4 times a week now, play tennis together, paintball weekly as a family and I train MMA a couple nights a week.

It's much better spending less time in the gym together and doing other fun things.

I agree totally, the RR is biggest POS ever. The GF loved the styling and size for the kids so since she bought it for herself, I kept quiet.

We live out in the country and she goes into the city daily so I calculated her fuel costs and they are around 6-7k yearly.

After I told her this she is now considering (Due to my pushing her) a Fisker Karma Electric Hybrid.

We're checking one out in July...

hansoac 06-14-2011 08:19 AM

oh man that Fisker is shmexy! :yum:

FromG2Z 06-14-2011 08:50 AM

Don't bother having the bumper buffed out (I assume you don't own a buffer and will have to pay someone to do it). You're getting a new one anyways, besides, you have chips all over your bumper to begin with. Make sure you clear bra your next bumper. That's the single best investment you should do for ANY car.

You are so right, this is my only regret with the car, only because I had no idea what a clear bra was when I first bought the Z.

As soon as the new bumper/fenders are installed I am either getting a 3M wrap or Clear Bra.

Z-less 06-14-2011 09:06 AM

Yea she was drinking and she took a bar. Then the cops knocked on my door that following day and asked if she can step outside. We didnt know till the cop told us that she slightly grazed a suv as well. It was the mexican couple that called the cops on us. How do I know that they are mexican? Well they have 10 cars parked around there house with a dozen kids running around. (I am mexican too but do not meet the stereotype qualifications) The lady cop told me in a very mean way to stay in the house cause she wanted to talk to my girlfriend. So I gave that lady attitude and went inside. She wanted me in the house because she noticed my girls eyes were real red and puffy and asked her if she was ok and if I was hitting her. She said no as she was crying for wrecking my car. Then the mexican couple asked for $500 in damages and they took it to some shop and wanted to do it under the table and not get the insurance company involved. I decided to wait on giving them the money because I was skeptical of the place and wanted to take it to a shop myself know that was too much for the damage done. I never heard from the couple again or saw the suv??? In the end I have a 98 hatch and on my way to glory as I am saving up for a Nismo hence the name z-less.

So what if rear park sensors are not working? Why don't lazy people LOOK to ensure it is safe to reverse???!!

While I agree, people do get used to backing up without looking when they have sensors, it's a bad habit, but one that comes from years of relying on backup cameras and sensors.

In this case it just shows what happens when you get complacent and stop using your mirrors and making sure.
