Worth it?
So I need to decide if it's worth it to spend $150 a month to rent a single-car garage for the Z. It doesn't look very big, but I haven't been in one yet so I'm not sure if there will be enough room to work on the car... but if anything it will keep it safe from the elements.
Reminds me that I need to check to see if there are outlets in the garage... that would be a plus. So... would you spend $150/mo to garage your Z? I'm about 99% yes right now... just need some help pushing me over the edge.

Two questions:
Do you EVER have hailstorms where you live? Do you like your car without dimples? If the answer to both questions is "yes", get the garage. When I buy a house, the garage is one of the most important features I'm looking at. |

Yeah, we get weather. All of my previous cars have been garaged but now that I'm on my own I just needed to do some thinking about spending the extra cash on it. I'm definitely leaning towards it.
And like you, when I buy a house the garage is going to be a main selling point for me.

It would be a different story if you were asking whether to rent a place without or with a garage, but since you are just getting a separate garage....
A few questions come up: 1. How long will you keep your car? If not long enough then don't worry about it 2. If you get a car cover you could save the $ for whatever else may come up. I keep my Z outside only because my garage is full. I will just make sure to keep her waxed and the paint should be just fine with a car cover. |

I usually garage my Z 50% of the time. If I know a big storm is coming with high winds etc I will definitely garage it.
And to be honest, I would stay away from any car covers, especially with this car being that the paint is so sensitive. You get some wind and the car cover starts to flap a little bit you will have swirls and scuffs like you wouldn't believe. You'd be better off exposing it to the elements. Just some experience I've had. |

What's the deal with the paint, anyways? It's pretty crappy... very thin. I already have chipping on my hood.
At this rate I'm going to have to repaint the hood and front bumper within the next 12 months. Even my Mustang had better paint!!!

It was all I could help with.. sometimes I look at posts and I don't understand your dilema, but being in CA I wouldn't think of things like really good floormats or car covers.. my ignorance to the rest of you guys living in climates that will kick your ***..
But the front of my G is DESTROYED from my drive to work on freeways.. embarrassing actually.. Clearbra turns out is a genious idea.. |

I barely have 3,000 miles on the car and the hood is chipped to hell. Lots of loose gravel around here which sucks ***. Seems to be a common thing as our roads get really dirtied up from the winter months. We also have a **** ton of pollen in the air too. Solid Red is the new Yellow, apparently.

I'll probably get flamed for this but I currently live in my friend's house that can fit two cars, HOWEVER the garage door isn't automatic. That means I gotta the garage door, drive the car out, get of the car, go back into the house, lock the garage door, walk out of the house, and drive away. This might not seem like a big deal but even 5 minutes is precious to me in the morning because I'm one of those people that wakes up 10 minutes before I have to get to work.
So basically I end up garaging my car only during snow and hails. |

Only thing I ever get in VA is snow and rain. The sun is worse on it than the precipitation. I have my Mustang in the garage at my parents house and keep my Z parked at my condo spot.
No way would I spend an extra $150 per month for somthing that isnt right at my home. |

unless you just have a lot of money and 150 a month can be throw away money, i would not do it. You also have to think about since you said it is not at your house, how far is it? I like the idea of keeping my car in a garage and all, but 150 a month is pretty high. at that rate, whatever damage is done to the car, after a little bit of time you would have already paid the price of what it would cost to get some touchup work on it... thats just my 2 cents

The only question that needs to be answered:
Is it worth it to you? My car is garage kept with cover...I drive my truck during the week and Z on weekends.
