I thought I read in some thread on here that some article or interview done by someone in Europe had said the 11's already had more sound deadening than the 09s and 10s. I don't have a link to that or the time to search for it though... I could be mis-remembering...

The only change: A price hike (creep).

Yeap... Nissan is great for no updates and quarterly price hikes of $200 every 3 months. Then the new model year jumps up at about $400. So the base car has gone up 2 grand in 3 years and the only feature to show for it are heated mirrors... WhoooHooo. Furthermore the Z is not selling. Its soon to be out-powered and definately out-torqued by the genesis coupe, yet prices go up and features are nill. I love the Z so other cars don't come to play for me but, that's some very sh1tty business on Nissans part. The enthusiasts already own the car. In order for this car to survive it needs new buyers. In order to get new buyers it needs a price competitive package. Luckily the Z is in a class by itself. Its the only reason they can barely break 10k in sales annually. But we need at vleast 15k in sales annually for this car to even be considered for a next generation model.
I know they are going thru serious sh1t in japan. But they need to stimulate there economy so they must stay resilliant by remaining competitive. |

What Nissan really needs to do to up the sales of the Z is to improve it's performance and make it more competitive with the other cars available, like the Mustang 5.0. Enthusiasts who love the Z most likely already have one. To attract other consumers, they need to show that they can compete with other cars that people cross shop with the Z. To the average consumer, the Z is slower, more expensive, and less practical than the Mustang, so why buy one?

I don't think a new bumper, slightly revised interior or a couple color changes will do much for the 370Z at this point. It's a great car already but as others have said, the competition is catching up. I'm not sure there's an 'average' consumer for the 370Z but it definately attracts a particular following. I'm unique because I never really liked any of the past Z cars so I never bought one, however when the 370Z came out it changed everything.
The economy is rough, supply from Japan is limited and dealers are taking advantage of the situation (at least dealers I've been to...not just Nissan). I do agree you get a LOT for your hard earned $ with the 370Z however you can't overlook the used car market. These days $35k will buy you a LOT of performance car on the used market. People also seem to be holding onto that 5-7 year old (still mostly shiny) car they purchased back when the economy was hot. Now, this probably has minimal effect on most 370Z customers who are looking for updated performance, but overall I think this would lengthen the product life cycle for car designs as the ROI takes longer to achieve. The 370Z product development was during a time when the economy was fairly stable and the housing market was much more viable. I'm certain the downfall of the housing market and financial industry has blown more than one business plan out of the water for car makers. Even a very minor change to something like a bumper requires a lot of effort for a large manufacturer. You have product design, prototypes, testing, tooling, manufacturing line changes (either internal or external with suppliers, possible NRE charge with suppliers), component discontinuation, possible scrap inventory and revised marketing to implement. They need to fix what is broken before making changes. Our car is a value but the very basic stuff like cooling, oil consumption, and sh--ty paint need to be fixed first.
