Good news everyone!

People ask me all time if my car is a 360Z. When I correct them, they seem confused, and many insist on continuing to call it a 360. I thought

When people get confused, I just explain to them how cars are often named after their engine displacement. I point out to them, for example, that a BMW 335i has a 3.5 liter engine. A 540i has a 5.4. A Mercedes E350 has a 3.5, etc. That's when the light bulb goes off and they go away happy, feeling like they learned something.

pretty sure the 335i is a 3.0 liter engine, and there is no 5.4 liter engine for the 5 series (or any 5.x liter engine). this logic does work for the mercedes though.

People also cofuse the Altima Coupe with the Z. A co-worker saw one from behind and told me that was a 350. I told him to bet for a lunch...he was too cheap. He would lost.

My mom couldn't tell the difference between a 350Z and a 370Z when i showed her pics of both. This was before I bought the car though, I wonder if she can tell now.

Semtex, I always thought that was the case with BMW, but after Drex's response I was shocked to find the BMW does a fair amount of "rounding" up or down on their engines compared to the model numbers.

I must assume Nissan has begun the same practice, and will be disassembling my VQ engine and measuring the displacement. Perhaps we ARE all driving 360 Z's!

Yeah I'm a little shocked about BMW too. And actually, Mercedes has started messing with the numbers matching the displacement too. The new CL63 AMG, for example, has a 5.5L bi-turbo V-8. Their justification is that with the turbos, it has the 'equivalent' displacement of a NA 6.3. I wonder if that's the logic that BMW is using too (3.0 + turbo = 3.5).
